O/S Daily Sunday 20th April 2014

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

    Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need them.

We’ve just had a bit of a storm, thunder, lightening, and a really heavy downpour – which has now eased to a steady rain, still quite chilly too.

DH and myself up and enjoying a cuppa, boys still in their pits.

Work was ok yesterday for us both.

Had a lovely late afternoon and evening at mum and dads with the boys and my bro, SIL, sis, BIL, younger sis and all the nieces and nephews – food was yummy, there was bacon and mushroom risotto and pasta in a tomato sauce, garlic bread and salad, dessert was a choice of chocolate gateau, chocolate and orange gateau, or lemon tart and cream, all eaten and enjoyed. We’re dropping the boys off as they are going for lunch whilst DH and myself are out.

I’d spoken to DH about when we should have the roast leg of lamb I’d bought and we both decided that as we’d got plans for today, tomorrow would be a good day to do a roast, so we’re just going to have whatever today, boys will have roast at mum’s and then big roast tomorrow lunchtime with all the trimmings, I haven’t actually cooked a proper roast for ages, so very much looking forward to it and will be doing plenty so there’s leftovers for a night in the week. There’s lots of food in the fridge and freezer so we won’t go hungry! I’ve spent quite a bit on food in the last few weeks, so over the next couple of weeks I’m going to try to do a menu plan using up what we have in the freezer and cupboards – I’ll be trying to keep the food costs down as much as possible. The freezer outside really needs defrosting so I need to use up as much as I can. Both my sis’s cooked the main meal last night and they just made it up as they went along, but broadly based on meals they do at home, I can cook but find that quite a difficult part of cooking, if I have a recipe I’m fine, but just making it up as I go along is what I find quite a challenge.

    Happy Easter Sunday everyone x

    Keep safe and well x

Another glorious day, what a pleasure and so unexpected. I'm sitting on my front doorstep watching birds dance in the air and sheep with their new lambs munching away. Last night two white tailed deer wandered around the fringes of the wood.

Yesterday I cleared two packing boxes and today will tackle the remainder. I bought some tough gardening gloves as there is a lot of rubbish in the garden which needs picked up. Drove to the tip yesterday at 4.00pm to find it shut.

Food is just bits and pieces at the moment. Certainly there won't be an Easter feast. Not even sure the the Easter bunny will find us!

Right...need to get this body into gear. Windows need to measured for curtains and nets so we can get some up and feel less exposed.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend, getting better, being with family, being creative or just relaxing.

    Good morning everyone :)

Another lovely day here, what a pleasant surprise to have beautiful weather for a long bank holiday weekend!

I better get on with tidying and start preparations for lunch. I need to find a big roasting tin as the lamb won't fit in our usual dish. Like nmlc, we are hoping to have lots of left overs.

Gers - it sounds absolutely wonderful in your part of the world.

Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for those that need or just want them. Keep well and safe and have a super day.

    Happy Easter everyone

Overcast & chilly ere today, hubby is up and watching the GP with a bacon sarnie, he's gradually improving, he suffers from PTSD, so I do try to be patient.

The 2 dresses I finished yesterday are in the WM, once they are dry I'll iron then & put them in the wardrobe until the weather warms up. I'm itching to do more sewing, but I'm back at work Tuesday & so I will be worn out to do anything in he evenings.
    Have a good day everyone.

    Morning all,

Pouring with rain here miserable day after the last few days, it will be a day for staying in doors.

We have some ebay bits to put on later seems a good day for it, we were going out for another long walk but I hate walking in the rain.

Dinner tonight will be the rest of the chicken left over from yesterday with new potatoes and salad, we also had some asparagus as a starter yesterday steamed with butter and parmesan we have another bunch today so will have that, I also bought some fresh beetroot which I will cook today.

Need to strip the beds and get some washing on, it will have to go on the airer today.

    Have good days all xx

    Morning all,

Hope you are all well and enjoying Easter morning.
The weather has turned chilly and blowy but we are spending the day finishing the bathroom so no big deal. All the washing is done and away so that's good.
Dh and I are working hard on my leg exercises and I really feel it's starting to bend a bit more:eek: will keep going, couldn't do it without dh who pushes me more than I would myself iykwim .
I'm not cooking a roast. Youngest is off to his gf's parents for lunch and with the others spread out across the globe it's just dh and I for lunch. So something quick and easy, it's a nice change as I often cook for the whole family on a Sunday.
As you know I've been weigh watching but have struggled over the last week or so. I've always been a couple of stone over what I would like for years since I had my babies the youngest of which is almost 18. I've decided to be a bit kinder to myself. I constantly feel disappointed with what I've eaten and this makes me feel down. I virtually have to starve to lose weight. I'm not doing it anymore. I will continue to try and eat healthy but I'm going to start enjoying my food again and buying clothes I need, not waiting until I'm a specific size, sorry rant over.
So shall have a mooch around the online shops today, someone has told me there is a Primark on line so I will check that out.
Have a fab day whatever your doing. X

    Afternoon :D

Baltic here this morning. Been lulled into a false sense of warmth this Easter hols  today we have had rain, thunder and it's been freezing.
Just got back from doing am Easter egg hunt at Lacock Abbey. It's only down the road and they hold a lot of events like this for the kids. Got there early for once before the worst of the rain started. Kids are having chocolate for lunch as I was a mean mummy and made them have proper breakfast this morning ;)
Heating is on (what a treat!) I am cooking myself some poached egg for lunch (or is it breakfast as I didn't eat this morning ;)). Everyone is snuggled on the sofa in relative peace.
I've found the Victorian Farm episodes on YouTube so will treat myself to watching some of that later :D

Tea will be the usual chicken here. None of us really like lamb and we don't really make that much of a fuss at Easter.

Hugs and spoons all round xx enjoy your Sunday

Julie a wise decision, I can't do WW etc as it makes me miserable and obsessed about food :o learning to love myself but it's a sloooooooooow process.

I've not had time to post properly for ages as lots going on here at the moment.DGD is due shortly and she is staying over so I think we're going to bake fairy cakes,I've got some coloured modelling paste and toppers so she'll enjoy that.We all went to DGNs 3 rd birthday party yesterday and she fell asleep at the table while we had something to eat after,it was in a Wacky Warehouse.

Got beef in the sc, DS not keen on lamb, and I already had the beef in the freezer.Think theres some apple pie left for after.

Right better dash and get the baking stuff ready :) .Have a lovely day x
