Delivery charges being reduced at Tesco

This morning I had a letter through from Tesco about my delivery saver plan saying it was being reduced in price from next month. I rang them to check if it was a price adjustment or a permanent reduction. Apparently it is permanent. £7.50 per month down to £3 and also only need to spend £25 not £40.

I thought folks might be interested in what the guy of the phone said about other delivery charges, apparently they are being reduced as well. Currently the lowest is £3 though most slots are dearer. Slots are going to start at £1.

I can't comment for anyone else but I believe my shopping bill has gone down since I started shopping on line as less temptation and no carrying heavy shopping, it gets brought to the front door. Also as on an hour slot no waiting around unnecessarily.

Now I am not suggesting Tesco is the best supermarket by any means, but if you do a regular shop there it could be worth you trying a delivery especially once the lower prices come in.
Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.

    Thanks for that.

I am currently on an ASDA £15 per 3 months (minimum order £40) pass guaranteed for the rest of the year. I have the option of renewing this next month. I also have 2 months left on an Ocado free trial pass (minimum order £40).

ASDA has recently introduced some £1 (minimum order £25) midweek delivery slots which I could use. In the light of this and Tesco's offer (minimum order £25) I will be seriously considering my options.

My only concern is that if I don't renew with ASDA now I lose the guaranteed pass price (normal price £8 pm) and £1 slots may be hard to find. This now seems less of a risk given the increased competition.

I have just phoned to cancel the renewal of my delivery saver because it was a half-price offer when I signed up and it's not worth it for me at full price. The person I spoke to told me that prices are being reduced from 23rd April to £60 for 12 months, and £36 for 6 months. Waiting for more info. If minimum spend is reduced to £25 that will be ideal for me .
    10% cashback from TopCashBack too

    That's £5-£6 per month.

I assume that the former is for a 6-month midweek pass and the latter for Anytime passes.

    Good to see loyalty rewarded.

I recall reading a post from someone who had a delivery pass with a company (Ocado?) complaining that they were not receiving offers that an acquaintance who did not have a delivery pass was receiving.

There is a danger that when paying large sums up front that ones custom may be taken for granted and a company may not feel the need to offer additional inducements to buy from it instead of one of its rivals.

I was in this position, but decided to cancel as i was spending too much with the minimum £40 spend. I managed to find a 50p slot for Weds; which is the day i normally have my shopping delivered, at the exact same time, for a min £25 shop. Much better :)

I got a 6 month anytime pass for £30 (month ago)

    Otherwise I'd pay £4.50 to £6 (Fri/Sat slots)

I had a few months free (sponsored by Unilever I think) but too dear now, often £6.99. (very late slots are £0 to 5.99 but some have to spend £75)

Ocado often give last minute % off or free delivery. Tesco is a mixed bag. (£5 helping hand the past fortnight to everybody)
  • They are competing with Asda. I recently switched as with Tesco my shopping was getting dearer each week. With Asda it is approx £30pw less.
  • I have had the £20 e voucher too because I have five months to go on my delivery saver. My letter said that my plan would now cost £6 a month and they were refunding me the difference.. I have the anytime plan.

Switching to Asda isn't an option for me as in my area their fruit and veg is poor compared to Tesco.
