Cars parking in the cycle lane on a busy Road.

Near my home theres a very busy dual carriage way and as soon as your off the roundabout your onto it. When I'm on my bike I find that its really quite dangerous because lots of cars and vans are parking in the cycle lanes. These belong to local residents.
So basically you have to move out quickly and the cars coming off the roundabout dont always anticipate your move well.Basically its a bit dangerous really.
What I wondered is if I reported it to the local traffic police would they go out and have a word?. I'm obviously not going to say anything to the car owners myself as I will get verbal abuse. What would other people do?

What, if any, is the difference between parking on a road with and without a cycle lane? Unlike a bus lane there are no restrictions apart from the general issue of whether it can be classed as an obstruction and whether it is worth actioning
I think you need to anticipate more and start pulling out earlier rather than suddenly appearing from behind parked vehiclesSo basically you have to move out quicklyThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Really? well thats not what the police said, they are going out to talk to the car owners this afternoon.
The cycle lane is there for cycles not for cars to park.0 -
Any highway is designed for vehicles to get from one place to another and not for parkingThe cycle lane is there for cycles not for cars to park
If the cycle lane does not have a TRO then they are purely advisory and it boils down to the gray area of obstruction of the highwayThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
It it is a dashed white line, it is then only advisory. It on the other hand the white line is unbroken, then no motorise vehicles are permitted in the line.0

Highway code
140
Cycle lanes. These are shown by road markings and signs. You MUST NOT drive or park in a cycle lane marked by a solid white line during its times of operation. Do not drive or park in a cycle lane marked by a broken white line unless it is unavoidable. You MUST NOT park in any cycle lane whilst waiting restrictions apply.

There are plenty of cycle lanes with a solid line where loading is allowed0 -
