Dont understand child's SATS grades

Hi All, hope someone knowledgeable can help
So much has changed since I was at school!:rotfl:
I have just received my eldest daughters school report, she is 10 and on it are her mock SATS grades - problem is, I don't understand them and there is no key or guidance to tell me what they mean
for English Writing she got 4B
for reading she got 4B
For maths she got level 3A
Science Level 3A
Now I know these are only mocks and I'm not the sort of parent to get all obsessed with grades(as you can tell) but I'd love to know what these mean and if she is below, spot on or above average
Can someone please help?
Thanks in advance

All children in KS2 should have grade 4's in all subject by the time they leave school.
So I would say she is doing pretty much alright considering she still has another year to go!
She will easily go up into the 4's (and probably 4A's or 4B's) in maths and science and into the 5's with her reading and englishFree/impartial debt advice: Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS) | National Debtline | Find your local CAB0 -
Children are expected to move up just under 2 sub levels per year and by Year 2 around 70%ish of pupils would be expected to get level 2s, by Year 6 around 70%ish would be expected to get level 4s.
So a 4b in Year 5 will be above average and a 3a in Year 5 will be average.
Actually that's not worded correctly. 100% are expected to get level 4s in Year 6 but the national average is in reality around 70% +0 -
Is she in class 5 or 6?
If she is leaving to go to 'big school' in Sept these will be her Key Stage 2 levels.
If she is in class 5 she has another year to go to improve them.
They are meant to leave primary school at level 4.
The highest you can get at Key Stage 2 is a 5.
They go in the order 3c,3b,3a,3,4c,4b 4a,4,5c,5b,5a,5.
hope this helps!0 -
Essentially as a year 5 pupil she is slap bang in the middle of her year group for maths and science and above the middle for English. Only you know your daughter to know whether this is a fair assessment of her achievement. It is what the teachers have to say that is perhaps more important. In one child's case this could be a fabulous achievement, something to be proud of, in another it could be disappointing results suggesting he/she needs to work harder.Newbie thread: go to the top of this page and find these words: Main site > MoneySavingExpert.com Forums > Household & Travel > Motoring > Parking Tickets, Fines & Parking. Hi All and many thanks for your help
She is in year 5 and has only attended this particular school since October due to some trauma at her old school so I think these are good results. she has always struggled with her maths but I did at school I hated it (funny how I ended up a broker). Ok so she's on target for maths and science and above target for english and writing. Its a pity they are not assessed on history, geography or art, she'd get straight 5's on those!
Thanks very much again, her report was glowing and I'm one happy mum. Perhaps I should buy her something nice as a well done present? Does anyone else do this for their kids?I am a Mortgage Adviser

We usually do something as a well done present - a trip or visit somewhere - that type of thing. If nothing else, it rounds off the school year.0 -
I think the school would appreciate your feedback that an internet forum told you what they didn't. There's no point the school sharing the levels with you if they don't explain them.
we never used to write our "mock" results onto reports, but verbally told the parent on parents evening so we could explain what the results mean and if they were good/keeping on track/must try harder results for that child and their progress.
Hopefully the school will realise that they're doing parents a disservice by sharing results in this way and will review it for future years.Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

Our school explain the ranges of grades expected for each year group but didn't explain where abouts on the scale a 5c. We weren't sure if 5c is above or below a 5 if you see what I mean so thanks to christine for pointing it out!:T:T0

This gives great support for parents!!0 -
It's shocking to me that this is being explained on the internet and not by any information that came with the results! Bloody appalling!0
