SRJ debt collect letter

Hello all.
I have just received a letter from a company called SRJ Debt recovery agency.
Stating that
" They behave made enquiries for confirmation of your currant place of residence. Information has been received confirming that your address details have changed to this address.
Due to Data protection legislation details of the account are not included in this letter."
And they go on to say please call them immediately on 0845*******
quoting a reference number for more information.
I was horrified to receive this letter as I am NOT and Never have owed anyone any Money. If I want to buy something I save the cash first and pay for it, I do not do credit. All my utility bills are paid direct debit.
I am in my early 60's have had a major heart attack and had a quadruple bypass, I do not need any more stress.
What should I do about this? surely just because someone has the same name that doesn't give these people the right to just accuse someone/ me of owing them money!!!
Do they employ buffoons? They obviously do Not believe in checking their facts.
I am really worried about this and i'm not sure if I should send them a very strong letter or report them to someone?
Help Please!!
Thank you.
Tricia

Hello
Firstly, try not to stress, if it's not yours it will be fine.
Never ring these companies, they often try to get people to pay even if not their debt, tell lies etc. you don't need the stress of that...
It's a fishing letter. Just ignore it for now.
Chances are they will send a follow up with more details and at that point you can send them the strong letter telling them to go away.

My only concern would be to check your credit reports to make sure they haven't added anything harmful to those. Don't want your credit rating trashed for something you don't owe.
That can happen, especially if they have used the credit reports in the "trace" and so incorrectly linked your report to a wrong debt.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

i am assuming there is one on this site, I may be wrong.
Thank you very much.

I get text and prerecorded messages by phone asking if I am a particular person and to contact them. I am not the person they refer to so they are just phishing around. In my view SRJ are Imbeciles to say the very least and I have reported this harassment to the powers who say they protect us.
Like most DCA's they are scratching at straws, and like all the comments here, NEVER give out any details until you know the full story and even then. make it very clear to them on the method they can contact you.
If you want a good laugh and what these silly people are up to

DCA`s send out hundreds, thousands of these letters and texts every week, you have to remember they purchase delinquent accounts by the thousands, mostly with just a name and an account number, and what is owed, they have to "fish" around to find the right person, if the name were smith for example in Norwich, they would send letters to every smith in Norwich, chances are one or more will respond, and hey presto, that's how it works, they don't always care if its the right smith there looking for, so never respond to one of these unless the details actually belong to you and you recognise the account, so don't worry about it, it really doesn't mean anything;)I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Very true but at the end of the day, how stupid can that be ? I think the word "Imbeciles" is probably being too kind to them0 -
Received a letter today from SRJ but actually named to another person which neither my husband nor I know and certainly never resided at our address. Sending the 'prove it' letter and hopefully will never hear from them again!0

A prove-it letter isn't really appropriate if they're not demanding money from YOU but from someone else who does not live there.
You should just return the letter preferably unopened marked 'not known at this address'0 -

Why bother wasting money on a stamp?
Just fold the letter us and wipe your bottom on it.0
