Lucas credit want money for Sky

Hello all,

I received an email from an outfit called Lucas Credit Services who wanted £90.49 that I apparently owe Sky.

I phoned Sky and they were unable to tell me what the debt was for. I thought this was quite odd, so asked to speak with someone else who might be able to.

I'll say now that when I left Sky I made sure that I was fully paid up to date and that there was nothing further to pay.

The next person I managed to speak to told me that a portion of the debt was for a missed payment - which was my last payment with Sky - but they didn't know what the rest of the money was for. I checked my bank account and found that the payment hadn't come out due to me being overdrawn. Fine, no problem, I paid that on their site.

This left me with £58.74 that was as yet unaccounted for. I was told to email the cancellations team and received an email telling me that I owed them £48.40 which 'had accumulated' to the amount of £58.74. Is that even legal?

I responded with an email pointing out that no one up to now had been able to tell me what the charge was for, and that I was unable to find any number on their site that added up to £48.40. I also asked why they didn't tell me about this charge when I cancelled.

I've now received another email from them telling me that the amounts owed are;

£18.26 for cancelling the HD package
£40.48 for the main TV package.

So somewhere someone is lying to me. One (or all) of the numerous amounts and reasons they've given me for owing this money are outright lies.

My question is this.

What do I do? I told them in my response to the latest email that they'd have to prove it in front of a judge. I think I've got plenty of evidence to suggest they don't know what they're doing, but am I in the right?

Does this happen often with Sky?

Thank you in advance for your help, as always!

Are you emailing Sky? or a debt collection agency?

I would respond to them to ask the to provide proof of the alleged debt (I'd actually do it in writing/by post rather than by email).

Or you could I guess email to say you require all communication to be in the post and ask them to write to you with details of any alleged debt.

If you do write to them you may want to use the prove it letter template - Letter when you know nothing about about the debt - AKA "Prove it" letter

I'm currently emailing Sky, I never responded to Lucas because let's be honest, who wants to deal with people like them.

I moved across over to email as soon as I realised they were mucking me about, but if they respond with another demand I'll do as you say and send out the 'prove it'.

I hate how these companies use their size and inefficiencies against people.

Prove it letter would be good.

    After that, written complaint.

Then, if required, refer to the ombudsman.

    Might even be DCA charges.

Well after a few emails in which they changed the reason for the 'debt' twice, I've now received another email from Lucas (despite me telling them not to contact me).

Who do I send the 'prove it' letter to, Sky or Lucas?

I don't just want this to go away, I want to take this to them and make them realise they can't just tell people they owe them money and expect them to pay up!

Ignore the debt collector, go to Sky and register a formal WRITTEN complaint. You want this fixed, by them. You have no obligation to this Lucas outfit and no contract with them...tell them to bog off. Once you have a written acknowledgement with Sky that this 'debt' is satified and no further money owing, write to Lucas and tell them to bog off again and enclose a redacted copy of the acknowledgement from Sky. Tell them that continued intrusions will result in formal complaints and you will take it further.
