Work after retirement

Can anybody help with some basic advice (just a starter for 10?)
As a newly retired engineer, I am already a tax payer. I also work from home with regular visits to a local company where I help with technical matters. Most of my work is undertaken at home and consists of design and reports.
I am required to invoice the company and am paid directly into my bank account. If this work continues, I would imagine my additional income per annum will be approximately £6k?
Can anybody suggest basic reading for me to help with the new problem of providing a tax return whilst claiming for my allowances relating to working from home, travelling, consumables etc in order to reduce the amount of tax I will need to pay.
Many thanks in advance.

Hello, Err . . . I guess not.
Am I about to open a whole can of worms here?0 -
You will need to register and do it SOON, even if you have already been filing your tax returns every year for other reason (s).
As far as I know re expenses, if they are wholely and exclusive for your business, you can generally make a claim. Travel expense-wise, you can do the usual per mile alllowance or claim for the actual costs.
When you fill in your return, include ALL taxable income including pensions, not just freelance work/self employment, or the calculation will be wrong!!!0
