ebay/paypal and declaring bankruptcy

Hi, I'm going to be going bankrupt this month and I'm concerned about my ebay/paypal account, I've had the ebay account for years so my selling limits are much higher than someone who has just opened a new account. For this reason I've been helping my mum sell some of her items on my account. The money that's been generated I've paid straight into her paypal account. We're talking around £400 in total I'd imagine. It didn't even cross my mind at the time but I'm worried that this might look dodgy when it comes to having my interview with the OR. I'm still really confused as to what gets investigated, why, and to what extent. I've spoken to ctep change a few times with different concerns I've had and each time I've been told my case is really straightforward as I don't have (and never have had) any assets. I've read through the forms and it doesnt look like ebay/paypal comes into it, can I leave this off my form, (or is that a bad idea) is the amount of money were talking about significant? should I explain it? Is it likely to be looked into at all? I dont want to get my mum into any trouble obviously!! Any help and advice would be really appreciated. If anyone can give me a bit of clarification as to what the OR will look into that would be great, if bank statements are automatically investigated, or just if an alarm bell gets rung - tht kindof thing. Thank you in advance!

also I dont know if this is worth mentioning but my paypal account is still listed under my old surname (which changed about 18 months ago) I do realise I need to give any previous names though although I wasn't sure if this might get overlooked somehow??
  • You need to put this account on the bankruptcy forms. Don't hope that it might be overlooked, because if it is found the OR will then start from the presumption that you were hiding something.

The OR will ask questions, but I am guessing that you have a pretty simple paper trail for this. You can list the items of your mum's that were sold and point to the corresponding transfers into her account.

You haven't done anything wrong, and it shouldn't take the OR long to realise this. But for simplicity I think you shouldn't do any more of these sales now until your bankruptcy is through, and even after that, I suggest she needs to use her own account to sell the things, even if you help her with this.

Thank you so much for putting my mind at rest. Last thing I want to do is get my mum involved in my mess! Having made the big decision to go bankrupt its now the small things that keep me up at night! thanks again.
