Debt Sold On – Different Balance

I had an old Vodafone debt (that the more I look into the more I think I should have disputed, but that's another story) that was with a DCA, with a remaining balance of about £45.

It's been on my DMP getting a fiver a month, but with the balance so low I was just going to pay it off when I get paid this month to get rid of it.

Then I got a letter from the DCA, telling me they'd sold it to Lowell. Fair enough, I thought, I'll just pay the balance to someone else.

But when I looked at the balance it was only £27.

I don't want to look a gift horse in the mouth, but just wondering why it's £18 less with Lowell. Even if they'd bought it for £27 I would've thought they'd still be chasing me for £45?

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy to save £18 and clear a debt, but it all just seems a bit odd.

If Lowell have cocked up I don't want to put them onto that, but I also don't want to pay the £27 and then still owe money.

Any advice?

Don't know why the balance differs from before, if all they want is £27 then pay it, make sure you get it in writing that this will clear the account and no other DCA will chase you in the future.

Since the debt was sold on to Capital Accounts Receivable Management, and now sold again by them to Lowell, I'm not sure there's anything Vodafone can do in this situation is there, if you don't own the debt anymore?

Besides that, I no longer have the details of the original account, given that I left Vodafone back in 2007.

    Hi SRT81,

Thanks for coming back to me.

Although we no longer own the account, we can still deal with any queries about it.

If you've got account references from the DCAs, I'll be able to trace it from them.

    Kind regards,
