How long have you waited to hear back from an interview?

Just wondering what's the longest time anyone has waited to hear that they have or haven't got a job? Apart from forever of course!

5 weeks from an NHS position, and I got the job.

Did you not ask at the interview about this?

Over six months, and I got the job.

3 months after interview, 6 months total from applying (civil service).

Other jobs 1-2 months, worst one was a factory job - 3 months and when they rang me asking for my address to send a contract of employment (the address which they said that I'd never sent - despite it being on page one of my CV) I told them not to bother.

6 months for one firm to to decide they wanted me, I turned them down as the role would rely on their snr mgt to make decisions.

    3 weeks!!

I was the 1st person they saw and then they hadn't even shortlisted others to see when I went to see them.

It was a new role so not that bothered I guess about seeing people that fast.

Quickest compared to that was 1 hour!

They told me it would be around 2 weeks. They seem to have had a change of policy because I know in the past that this organisation did all the interviews on the same day and advised all interviewees of the outcome that day. This time they were doing the interviews over 2 weeks (although I think it was only 1 day in each of the weeks).

It was an awful interview so I would be amazed if I got the job. It would be nice to have it confirmed though.

The quickest time was when they offered me the job during the interview.

I don't really understand the concept of waiting, though, I just keep on applying to other jobs and going to other interviews. Employers take as little or as much time as they want.

Thats a good point and one that many employers simply don't understand. "Why have you applied and taken another job when you applied to us?" Little do they realise that the world does not revolve around their company, people need to survive.

Bottom line is if you want someone and interview them then let them know yes/no ASAP or you're gonna loose them and have to start again from scratch.

I have heard of the same happening where they get the agency to offer to say candidate 3 and turn down 1, 2 & 4 before # 3 says yes. 3 says no thanks and they have to start looking again as already told the others no thanks and no look stupid :)

I am continuing to apply for other jobs. I've got an interview on Thursday and sent an application for another job today. I may also apply for an identical role within the same organisation but based in another office, which has just been advertised. That will be an easy one as I can just resubmit the same application form, maybe just going over it and tweaking anything that I think could be improved on.
