Very pleased to report that I have a new hearing aid. It's slightly slimmer and slightly shorter. But every little helps!

The audiologist also suggested a shorter tube to reposition it somewhat. So far so good!

It was very serendipitous, as my appointment was a routine 15 minutes this afternoon. However, the snow caused two audiologists to swap their clinics and a patient with a long appointment cancelled because of the snow. Rather than twiddle his thumbs, the audiologist rang to see if I could come immediately- which I did. And got a long session!

Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.

  • My GP is referring me to Specsavers for a hearing test, but I didn't realise this means they will supply any hearing aids too.

I've been taking my FiL to the audiology department at the hospital for several years now and always been very impressed with the service. If you have a hearing test at Specsavers, is it like an eye test in that you can take your prescription somewhere else? I was thinking that if I have the test and need an aid(s), then I could make an appointment at the hospital to have it fitted. Also, I'm at the hospital quite often so it would be much more convenient for me to use the audiology department for any follow up needs. This is a completely new thing for me!

My GP referred me to "any approved provider" and I went to Specsavers where they tested me and supplied hearing aids.
I doubt you can get a prescription and go elsewhere. The procedure isn't like getting glasses. There is a lot of going backwards and forwards between tests and the aids. Some of the tests are done while you are wearing the aids.

Thank you. I think I will ask my GP to refer me to the hospital instead. I will think about it.
