I keep meaning to post this and forgetting. Last year I was visiting my doctor and parked in the car park beside the surgery. To my surprise I saw that there was a lot of white blossom in the hedge. I looked again in the autumn and there, hiding were MASSES of little wild plums, yellow and red, all hiding and ignored by everyone. I spent a happy half hour picking a huge bagful (lots of people stopped to ask what I was doing) and then I made many pots of delicious jam.
As its blossom time again, I suggest you make a note of where there is lots of blossom, and then return there in the autumn to see if you have discovered a wonderful new source of free fruit, organic and delicious. I can't wait this year.....

lol - similar thing happened to me at a local beauty spot - there were lots of people walking around all looking at the lake, and I looked into the trees and .................Cherries! masses and masses of them! luckily I always have bags in my handbag and was able to pick loads from the lower branches! cherry pie, cherry jam and we all had our fill of fresh cherries for days after (and some went in freezer). I make a point of visiting there each year at same time now. and no, I aint gonna let you all in to the name of the place. lol0

@OP
They sound like they might be Cherry Plums - my parents have them growing in the garden, and for years we had no idea what they were. I find the red ones taste better than the yellow ones, but the texture isn't great for eating. I've used them in the past to bulk out Victoria Plum jam when I don't have many Viccies. They're a handy thing to have access to :-)Roadkill Rebels December - £2.49
