  • Thank you Trishiapp. 2 years, 8 months ago I was in a bad place, not being able to see past the debt. We have made loads of sacrifices, sold what we could and taken on second jobs. It has paid off, literally! We have not touched a credit card in all that time and have vowed not to do so again. I have now been able to resign from my second job and we are living within our means. I hope that anyone else who is in despair can be reassured that things can get better over time. It takes time but the baby steps, altered spending habits and just chipping away is so worth it in the end.

What will you do now? Savings? Paying off your mortgage?

Thank you for the kind words.
We do have a mortgage but we are going to concentrate on building up our emergency fund first and then hopefully start chipping away at the mortgage. We have 10 years left on it with the possibility of moving before then reducing mortgage. I can't over emphasis how much peace of mind we have gained. Its something money/credit can't buy.

I relied heavily on reading other peoples posts especially when I thought there was no light at the end of the tunnel. Although I didin't post much, I was a serial lurker and took on board as much as I could - to prevent tipping over the edge so to speak. I wanted to post on here today and be honest about our journey. When I first had my LBM - my husband didnt have his until later into our journey - I wanted a quick fix, something that would'nt cause any pain, but of course there is no quick fix and I found that very difficult to accept but once we pulled together and the debt slowly but surely reduced it all got incredibly motivating and I became bizarely hooked on saving money and the pain of stacking shelves in our local supermarket on evenings and weekends whilst also doing my day job didnt seem so bad ( oh my, but am I pleased to have given that up now!).
I truly wish every one, whatever their circumstances, my very best wishes with their debt free journey. I couldn't have done it without this site.
