Additional Wedding leave?

A friend has just told me that she thinks if you get married, you can claim additional leave for honeymoon beyond your contracted holiday allowance. Has anyone heard of this? Can't find anything on DWP website, but not sure what I'm looking for.

This will depend on your contract - have a wee look at that.
If you work for the DWP, it depends. Wedding leave was lost for something else for staff, I don't remember what, perhaps paternity leave. If you have been there a long time ie over 10 years check with HR, you may still be entitled. I got it :T 22 years ago. I know its gone at least 10 years and probably longer.0 -
No, i've never come across that.
My employer did allow me to take more than the maximum of 2 weeks in anyone time allowed in my contract though. It could be a company perk, like allowing your to have your birthday off if it falls on a work day, but i'm 99% sure it is not an entitlement, down to your individual employer."On behalf of teachers, I'd like to dedicate this award to Michael Gove and I mean dedicate in the Anglo Saxon sense which means insert roughly into the anus of." My hero, Mr Steer.0 -
I've never heard of such a rule and to be honest I doubt many companies would have official "wedding leave" because they're so paranoid about the potential for discrimination and it could be argued that such leave discriminates against single and co-habiting couples.
Some companies will give you extra discretionary leave or be more flexible with dates though if you ask them nicely.0 -
No, I didn't think it was a statutory thing. I doubt it's available at my company: they begrudge you holiday at the best of times!0
