whats more 'private' at work?

have a few lengthly emails and letters to write and have a fair bit of spare time in work at present, whats the more secure way to write (no idea if they read/monitor our usage). I can either write in on Word, and save it onto a memory stick, or write it in hotmail and save it in my drafts folder

Whats less likely to be read/watched? Just wondering

    I'd say that your IT department would be less likely to pick up on it if you do it in word and save onto a memory stick, but potentially either could be monitored or recorded.

    A lot of workplaces lock down the USB ports, so that might not be an option - I would be wary of using memory sticks on the off chance that the company suspects you're stealing client data! One day someone will ask why you're stuffing a memory stick in your briefcase, and then you're a marked man.

    Outlook running on your local machine has the remote but embarassing possibility that you'll write up the email and then reflexively click "send", and mail your personal problems to the head of finance or the entire southern division etc. 'cause of the way that Outlook tries to fill-in the "to" field.

    Hotmail would leave you having to continually alt-tab away from the browser but is probably the least mess-uppable. Depends on your internet access policy. Some workplaces - local government, the NHS - are basically full of people reading The Guardian, Facebook etc, and I've always suspected that the IT policy was a weapon of last resort, e.g. if your boss wants to get rid of you he can simply accuse you of using the internet at work in contravention of article 3 section 14 of the IT policy, even if they've turned a blind eye to you sniping people on eBay for the last twelve years etc.
