Monday 14th of April What Small DFW-Things Will You Be Doing Today?

:):)Monday 14th of April What Small DFW-Things Will You Be Doing Today?

When we start out on the Debt-Free Wannabe trail we do loads of big "stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the Gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free...

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.:money:

    Hi all

    Thanks for starting us lpp.

Hope your work goes well today Tiggy.

    My things for today:

    1. Checked online banking - Quidco payment of £2.76 came in so paid off CC.
    2. Checked Vodafone - £20 credit promised has been applied so updated spreadsheet. Moving to SIM only on 21st, can't wait for bill to be reduced!
    3. Booked Center Parcs for next year on Come Back Soon offer, means free insurance, low price guarantee and £25 vouchers. Sharing with a friend so only £220 for a 3 night break. Getting holidays in before DS starts school and the prices are ridiculous! Money came from specific holiday pot.
    4. Charge phone at work.
    5. Dinner tonight is last night's, rolled over, as we missed our train home so the later one meant no time to cook after putting DS to bed - got pasties and wedges in the train station using Bite card for 20% off, DH paid :)
    6. Breakfast and lunch from stores.
    7. Check Quidco for new confirmations - only 60p so need to wait for it to reach £1 before I can withdraw.

Think that's all for me today. Have happy DFW days all x

    Morning all,
It's Monday, the sun's shining, it's a new week, a new start, let's cane it this week with the penny saving. Today's list of small money saving things:
*Saved a little bit of energy by sharing bath water, opening windows instead of using de-humidyfier, using hot kettle water to start off boiling eggs, doing laundry overnight on Economy 7 tariff, re-loading washer & setting timer for another cheap wash tonight & pegging out washing to dry on the line. Good drying conditions....hope no-one got their expensive tumble driers running today ;-)
*Did rubber ham. Cooked a ham hock in slow cooker yesterday for Sunday lunch. Divvied up the leftovers for pizza tonight, pasta tomorrow & a packed lunch. Not bad for a £2.50 hock. Would usually make stock from the bones but not enough room in freezer at the moment.
*Paid a credit card bill in full.
*Checked for surveys & did a couple.
*Update budgets (need to move some funds around so that Easter chocolate bought for nephews comes out of Presents Piggy instead of grocery budget.....this sounds very picky, but if I don't keep the different budget strands as correct as possible, it all gets in a muddle & invariably results in overspending because we have lost track).
    *Wrap ebay parcel.
*Made tomorrow's packed breakfast, lunch & work snacks.
*Watered veggies & checked for pests/problems. Still some nibbling going on in the greenhouse overnight. Found small fat snail & dispatched it into space.
*Ingredients in breadmaker ready for tonight's pizza dough & bread rolls for rest of week's packed lunches.
*Blitzed a stale end of loaf for breadcrumb box in freezer. It'll be perfect for making stuffing over Easter.
*Cut 2 50p off vouchers out of yesterday's Observer magazine & their food magazine for money off Divine chocolate (which I love!) It was a free Observer from my 'My Waitrose' card. If anyone has access to those mags, or spots someone binning them, snip the vouchers out first. Shame to waste them!
*Lots of outdoor jobs which I will probably start this afternoon, but will need to do over the next 2 or 3 days - will probably get 2 more trays of seedlings potted up today (free seeds) & leave some bigger jobs for tomorrow's list.
*Knit a bit more of my current project for the present box.
OK, kettle's going on now, have a good day, everyone.

Just realised that I can also pay the difference from my Vodafone onto my CC, so have done that too.
  • Can I join please?

I don't know if you will have me as I can't stand surveys :p :rotfl:

Last month we got our mobile bill down to £5 a month each and because we regularly check our bank balance I spotted they had over charged us.............. DH was straight on the blower as I hate talking to Virg!n at the best of times and only take over when DH has steam coming out of his ears.

I made £183 on Eb@y yesteday, it sounds a lot but by the time you sort all the missing/damaged/doesn't fit or (insert excuse of your choice) you don't come away with all that. People are coming it a lot more. I had three out of 10 parcels the other week who said they had not had their parcel and when I told them their local sorting office was interviewing the Postman they turned up within hours :rotfl:

Hi paidinchickens - welcome! I hate surveys too so only do them when my moneymaking is feeling slow :)

More to add to my list - booked in some mystery dining visits for the next couple of weeks - not really moneymaking but moneysaving as it means we won't spend money on lunch those days!

Also removed auto-topup from my Greggs Reward account as was being held prisoner by the £5.25 I had left - couldn't spend it as it would auto top me up under £5.

    Hi All,

I tend to read these threads once in awhile but i would love to be more regularly involved.

In particular really want to learn how everyone makes abit of extra money. Have thought about getting a weekend part time job but just thought its not worth losing family time and mental sanity lol.

I did manage to make £20 on Friday by selling two gift sets which i had originally brought in the sale for myself. I think i about break even but then i had held on to those sets for way too long so put the lost down to depreciation :p

    Things to do today:
[STRIKE]- find out about signing up to internet banking to monitor money going in and out[/STRIKE] Actually found a old saving account with money in by doing this, bonus! :j
[STRIKE]- sort out yahoo email account
    [/STRIKE]-[STRIKE] do a survey or two[/STRIKE]
    [STRIKE]

    - breakfast, lunch and dinner from home

    - have an NSD
    [/STRIKE]

Add [STRIKE]- do freepostcode lottery[/STRIKE] ;)

    Not sure what else yet.
