Wanted - external hard drive and usb hub

I've got quite an old pc and will be upgrading it at Xmas but in the meantime, i would like to get a usb hub as I am fed up with scrambling around the back of the pc and changing usb leads (there are only 2 connections).
Also as I only have a 25gb hard drive and I am now using a digital camera, it's going to fill up quite quickly and I also would like to save some important files to something other than cd which I don't get round to often enough.
Anyone got any suggestions?

Might be cheaper ones out there, but this should do. it'll run like a dog (i'm guessing you have usb 1.1) until you upgrade your pc, don't forget to get a usb2 hub (it to will run like a dog under usb 1.1, but will fly when you upgrade).0 -
Poundland had them recently.0

Don't you also need a usb2 card in your pc? I found one very cheap on E-bay, but of course you need a spare slot for it. It has 4 usb connections on the board, and I have a hub, just in case.0

1. Are you using this external drive for backup, or for data storage?
2. If you have more than one computer in the house, I'd get a network compatible unit, rather than a USB one0 -
I can recommend 7dayshop.com found some real bargains on there. Postage is expensive though if not purchasing much.

I still haven't got round to buying my external drive and now am a bit confused. If I buy an external drive, I would want it to work now as storage and back up for my current pc with it's tiny 25gb hard drive but also as back up for when I get a new pc (around Xmas time). I don't want to fork out for another hard drive in a few months time. So what should I buy? I have a usb hub now - would I be able to plug the hard drive into that?0

Yes you would but usually it has to be USB2 as the original USB format was too slow. You would be able to use this for your existing and your new PCA shadowy flight into the dangerous world of a man who does not exist.

Do not rely on storing your precious photographs on a hard drive, it is mechanical device and will at some stage die !! or by human error get deleted.
Always put them onto cd or dvd as well, yes it does take some time to do it, but you will then still have your photographs if anything does go wrong with your hard disc.0 -
