frozen rhubarb

Options
Hello!

I've found some rhubarb lurking in the back of my freezer. It has to be at least a year old.

Do you reckon it's still ok to shove into a crumble with a manky apple? Shall I defrost it first?

Yes it will be fine. I'd be more worried about the manky apple to be honest :D Nothing goes off in the freezer its too cold.

When we have rhubarb I cook it and freeze in small'ish portions which OH mixes into value or basic yogurts to spice them up a little bit.

I've never made a crumble but I would think you would defrost it first.

I use frozen rhubarb all the time in crumbles. You can defrost it if you wish, but I just throw it in the dish sprinkle with sugar, and about a tablespoon of corn flour sieved over the top as it can be a wee bit watery if it's been frozen then pour your crumble mix on the top. I have just finished last years rhubarb doing it this way......lovely!

I agree - go for it! It'll be fine to eat. I'd defrost it before putting in the crumble personally.
Made a lovely rhubarb crumble for family visiting today and just had a second helping!

Agree with all the above, I am still using home grown rhubarb from last year. I don't defrost just place in dish sprinkle with sugar and add topping.
