Anneka Rice. YUK! (As I said in another thread somewhere) Her silly irritating voice, going on about her kids and her sister's kids. Who cares?

Steve Wright - gimmicky, interrupts the music, 'factoids', the old woman - and other crimes against ears

Vanessa Feltz - cloying, insincere and inane

Jeremy Vine - the issues veer from tragic to utterly pointless and yet are given the same half hour slot each - plus he has to interview tub thumpers, issues driven obsessives and the general public. Cringing.

Elaine Paige - shameless name dropper, the painful break a leg spots, the nails across a blackboard voice and that cackling laugh

Diane Louise Jordan - don't like overt religiosity anyway but anyone who refers to dying as "going to glory" needs to go to glory herself

Trevor Nelson - not keen on soul and r and b music and his voice is another one that makes my ears shrivel

Jools Holland - fantastic musician, excellent band leader, good interviewer but what is with the painful 'vaults' gimmick where they spend a good portion of the show pretending to travel back through time or going down the vaults - complete with naff sound effects.

Also Alice Cooper from Planet Rock - mumbles, indulgent, irrelevant a lot of the time and clearly recorded in another country and 'phoned in'.

Commercial radio - the same few ads appearing across all the networks over and over again.
 Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway...

Like Chis Evans and Simon Mayo but the best Radio 2 programs are overnight, Janice Long and Alex Lester, excellent mix of music and have introduced me to lots of new artists.

I agree - the best shows are after midnight - Janice Long, Richard Allinson, Hughie Morgan, Bob Harris and Alex Lester.

Love Ken Bruce - always play Popmaster when I listen.

Like Simon Mayo, Chris Evans and Paul O'Grady

Mark Radcliffe and Stuart Maconie seem to be everywhere - Mike Harding was replaced as the host of the Folk Show by Radcliffe who also hosts the Music CLub and Maconie does the People's Songs thing.

I much preferred their evening show which is now an afternoon show on 6Music.

Update .. Radio one DJ Mike Smith has died
  • The one that annoys me about commercial radio now is that the adverts are pretty much either government sponsored (fasten your seatbelts, don't get robbed while on holiday), adverts for medical testing or adverts for selling your stolen scrap metal. If it weren't for the government funding through the pointless adverts then there wouldn't be any commercial radio at all.

Like a lot of people on here I cannot stand Steve Wright. I have a friend who thinks his show is great but he is kind enough to switch the radio off in the car if we are travelling together.

It is nice to have understanding friends.

I stream music mostly in the car now, much less stressful.

I used to think Mike Smith was ok in the 1980's.

As this thread has been revived, it's given me a chance to have a rant about my local radio breakfast show.

I'm not very good in the mornings, so I have the local radio station on the alarm to wake me up.

Honestly, after 5 minutes of the drivel and artificial laughter of the male DJ, together with the sycophantic giggling of the female sidekick makes me want to throw the radio out of the window.

So instead of doing that, I just get up.

For a non morning person, it's an ideal way to stop lying in bed and being late for work
