I think he was having a go at you for stating the obvious.

However, as people were still mooting taping as a reason for the inane DJ chittering, your comment seemed perfectly fair to me.

Unfortunately, my dentist has Radio 1 on in the morning - not sure which is worse.

That'll teach you to brush your teeth more :D
Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?
Get jobs in offices and wake up for the morning commute?

Wouldn't surprise me if it wasn't written in the record company contracts that the radio stations can't play the newer songs complete.

My point initially was that Steve Wright has been doing it so long that he never got out of the habit of speaking over the tune.

Quote about Alan Freeman which is relevant here.

His style .... Enfield himself praised Freeman in Simon Garfield's book on Radio 1, The Nation's Favourite, by categorising him along with John Peel as "DJs who loved music" as opposed to "DJs who loved the sound of their own voices....

In the same category, you could place Bob Harris, Johnnie Walker, and (if you want to call him a DJ rather than a presenter) Russell Davies - but unfortunately, loving music seems to get you posted to late night/ overnight/early hours, or late Sunday afternoon......

    Found this;
The radio station pays rights to broadcast music. The rates for totally playing songs are about 50% higher then the rates for interrupted music. I did learn something when working for a radio and television station. You'd be amazed at the amount of monies that go to the organisations that claim to protect the artistes rights.

Steve Wright is a genius past his peak. He pioneered 'zoo' format radio in the UK and used to really *be* the pulse of popular music. He hasn't changed with the times but kept his old audience, taking them to R2 from R1. Looks like his old audience don't want change as he still does great numbers...

I actually heard a local DJ talk all over the guitar intro to Layla the other day.

Hanging is too good for them!

Agree, used to love Steve Wright years ago in the radio 1 breakfast show days, now can't stand his show.

Jeremy Vine is OK depending on what subjects are discussed (and must thank him for introducing me to Martin Lewis and MSE ;))

Like Chis Evans and Simon Mayo but the best Radio 2 programs are overnight, Janice Long and Alex Lester, excellent mix of music and have introduced me to lots of new artists.

I am not keen on Steve Wright, I remember him from his R1 days and as I was a lot younger I thought he was ok, but now I have to turn off, his annoying habit of fake laughing while telling a not funny story drives me insane.

All that false chuckling while trying to finish his sentence, the man sounds deranged.
:) Been here for a long time and don't often post
