Almost out of debt hell.. one last nasty..Eon

Hey folks,

a bit of a weird one. I went on a debt consolidation plan a few ago.
almost done ! :) - pretty much on the straight and narrow and nearly debt free.

We rented our place out for 3 years. Paid interest only on our mortgage. Now decided to sell it while the going is good! Anyway the tenants moved out and we went back there to clear it up to sell.. it turns out my tenant had just been shoving all letters for us into a huge box....

It seems we owe Eon about 400 pounds from over 3 years ago. there were loads of letters from them, and stacks from various debt collectors chasing that same debt.. perhaps 50 letters in all

we stayed in the house for a couple of weeks last month while we prepared to sell it (Eon sending letters to "the new occupier") and we used some gas and electricity..

House is under offer should exchange contracts in the next week or 2, and we want to clear the old debt up and pay for our recent usage,

but we are s*** scared they're going to clobber us with loads of fees..

so was looking for some advice before we ring up and come clean!!
any thoughts?
Cheers!

    Morning finessejoe,

I think the first thing to do is to contact us and find out if we still have the debt, although it does sound like this has been passed to debt collection agency from what you've said.

We may be able to set up an arrangement for you to clear the balance, the debt collection agency may also do this for you if the debt is with them.

I'd also suggest making sure the bills are all up to date with your accurate reads, as you say you've used some energy when going back to the property.

When the property is sold, you can contact us to close the account down and produce a final bill to your meter reads.

    Hope this helps a little.

    Helena :)

  • Hi,

Just an add on for e-on, I have recently received my closing bill which states just for March 2014 (yep one month) a wonderful total of over £400 for gas and electric. This fantastic figure is based on one human being in a two bed house.

I couldn't actually get to the gas reader for a few weeks from when I moved in to give an actual reading. The initial reading at the beginning of March is an estimate.

There is no specific date for payment due. Does anyone know how long they normally give before they start adding admin fees?

I have tried calling on and off at various times, I'm hoping I might get through this evening .....

    Many thanks

    Rach

    Good morning Rach,

It sounds like the estimated start reads may be the problem here, did anyone take any reads when the previous occupier moved out?

Is the account now billed up to accurate reads?

You say this is a closing bill (final bill?) is this from changing supplier or moving out.

If you don't have a payment arrangement set up, then you'd need to pay the bill in full on receipt of this.

You may prefer to set something up to spread the payments out a bit. But as it's a final bill we may be limited on what we can offer.

Give us a call and we'll sort something out for you :)
