Financial help between jobs..?

Hi!
I finished work at the end of February with my previous employer due to moving house (moving in with my partner). I went for a job interview last week and got a call the next day to say I start on april 24th! It's a good job, nice social hours and an OK starting salary of £17000.
The problem is, I work two weeks in lieu, and as such won't receive the six days pay for April (fair enough!), and won't be paid anything until the end of May.
Is there anywhere I can go to borrow a couple of hundred pounds for petrol/car insurance premium/food?
I have an awful credit history-including a DRO which was satisfied 15 months ago. I've also fallen into the trap of PayDay Loans before, and have no intention of going back there!
Any advice would be much appreciated!:j

Know once how you felt! Aside from asking new employer for a sub or ealier paydate not a lot is open, other then try selling stuff
I had to borrow when I needed to get to work after a quick start and 5 week stretch to p/d, found a short term loan lender was actually ok, not quite the car crash people would have it made out to be - 5 monthly payments of £40 on borrowing initially £100+£20 cashback offer - soooo different experience to a proper payday loan who probably wouldn't have lent to me anyway thank goodness - see more info in Martin's guide, nothing is going to stop me making repayments because I borrowed knowing I would comfortably afford the monthly repayments especially with it spread over months rather then 1- and I needed to get to work, stuck in the keep calm only needs a little money help occasionally!!! I do hope this type of lending takes off http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/loans/payday-loans
If you don't want to go this route, can you try your bank? or a credit union? but the problem you will have is that you haven't been in work long, sorry to be brutal and hope I'll not get us into trouble lol! x0 -

no doubt I'm stating the obvious but can't your partner and/or other friends and family help? Or are you due a tax rebate if you haven't worked since the end of February? I applied for one recently and it only took a couple of weeks. It might not be much but would help.3 stone down, 3 more to go0 -

If it was a seasy as asking my partner I would have-he is self employed and works for Oxford Uni/Colleges, so gets paid as and when the various Bursars cash out his invoices!
I don't have a tax rebate coming as I had already claimed over payment and so haven't been paying tax for 7 months..
Anyway, all sorted now, but thanks for all your help :-)0
