How much does a new credit card affect chances of getting a mortgage?

I'm applying for a joint mortgage with my partner. We have a 20% deposit and hoping to borrow 4-5x joint salary.
He has recently opened a credit card in Jan as he didn't have any credit cards on file in the UK (he's italian). He has other credit history just not credit card. How negatively will lenders see this? He's not currently using any of the credit limit.
We managed to get the deposit together sooner than expected so I don't really want to have to wait for this credit card to age.

In my opinion it won't make a huge difference. Is the credit limit relatively low? i.e around £1,000-£2,000. If so it should be OK. I would advise that it is used and paid off in full each month to show responsibility with using credit.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

Probably makes no difference or perhaps helps marginally. If he were to use it (not all of it, just a few hundred at most) and repay the full amount on time then that again might help a little bit. Thanks for the advice! Yes - it has a low credit limit of £1000 and he's not really using it.0
