Sanex shower gel for sensitive eczema prone skin

I've heard good reports about this but it seems to be foamy and I've read where foamy shower gels and washes can irritate eczema even more, does anyone use this with sensitive skin?

They have different types, I use 0% which is supposed to be the mildest but it still has perfume and is foamy.
Works fine for me, but everybody has different triggers so you'll know only if you try, unfortunately.

Here's some info that you may find useful (it's cleanser, but the website is a good source of info in general)

The best thing I have found for my itchy skin is Femfresh. Can be bought at any chemist but a lot cheaper at Home bargains and the like.

Instant relief for me using it.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

    Hi Fusspot

I have eczema and quite sensitive skin and I find that Sanex is one of the few that doesn't cause me problems. I either use the unscented Zero one, the hypo allergenic one or the original sensitive one (peach colour). I can use any of these despite them being foamy. If my skin is extra bad I sometimes use either E45 wash or Oilatum shower gel. Neither of these are foamy but be careful they make your shower slippy.

    Regards

The Zero one I have is the one for normal skin, and is scented. I would prefer one that is unscented, their range is rather confusing, and I've not been able to find the ingredient list for the Zero sensitive that is unscented.
The ingredients for the dermo sensitive one are:
    AQUA , LACTIS PROTEINUM , SODIUM CHLORIDE , SODIUM LAURETH SULFATE , GLYCERIN , COCO-GLUCOSIDE , COCAMIDOPROPYL BETAINE , PARFUM , SODIUM LACTATE , LACTIC ACID , STYRENE/ACRYLATES COPOLYMER , CAPRLYL GLYCOL , POLYQUATERNIUM-7 , LACTOSE , ZINC SULFATE , SODIUM BENZOATE , BENZOIC ACID , CI 47005 , CI 1603 .
And these are for the Hypo Allergenic one
    AQUA , SODIUM LAURETH SULFATE , GLYCERIN , COCAMIDOPROPYL BETAINE , COCO-GLUCOSIDE , PARFUM , GLYCERYL OLEATE , SODIUM CHLORIDE , SODIUM LACTATE , LACTIC ACID , POLYQUATERNIUM-7 , CAPRLYL GLYCOL , ZINC SULFATE , SODIUM BENZOATE .
EDIT: managed to find the ingredients for the Zero Sensitive as well:
Aqua, Glycerin, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Sodium Chloride, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Coco-Glucoside, Sodium Lactate, Lactic Acid, Sodium Benzoate
    For comparison:
    Femfresh pure fresh
Aqua,Sodium Laureth Sulfate ,Sodium Chloride ,Cocamidopropyl Betaine ,Triethyl Citrate ,Lactic Acid ,Parfum ,Polyquaternium-39 ,Sodium Hydroxide ,Sodium Lactate ,Glycerin ,Dichlorobenzyl Alcohol ,Sodium Carbonate ,2-Bromo-2-Nitropropane-1,3-Diol ,Maltodextrin ,Methylparaben ,Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract ,Calendula Officinalis Extract ,Propylparaben ,Limonene ,Linalool ,CI 15510 ,CI 14720
    Palmolive milk and honey:
Aqua,Sodium C12-13 Pareth Sulfate (*A) / Sodium Laureth Sulfate (*B) ,Cocamidopropyl Betaine ,Glycerin ,Parfum ,Sodium Chloride ,Cocamide MEA ,Styrene/Acrylates Copolymer ,Sodium Salicylate ,Sodium Benzoate ,Polyquaternium-7 ,Citric Acid ,Glycol Distearate ,Tetrasodium EDTA ,Laureth-4 ,Lactose ,Poloxamer 124 ,Lactis Serum Proteinum ,Tocopherol ,Linoleic Acid ,Mel ,Retinyl Palmitate ,Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract ,Amyl Cinnamal ,Benzyl Benzoate ,Hexyl Cinnamal ,Limonene ,CI 19140 ,CI 16255 ,*A/B: see production code
    Simple refreshing shower gel
Aqua,Sodium Laureth Sulfate ,Cocamidopropyl Betaine ,Cocamide DEA ,Sodium Chloride ,Glycerin ,Pathenol ,Menthyl Lactate ,Citric Acid ,Sodium Hydroxymethylglycinate ,Polyquaternium-7 ,Dipropylene Glycol ,Cucumis Sativus Extract ,Proplene Glycol ,Sodium Hydroxide ,Pantolactone ,Anthemis Nobilis Oil ,Pelargonium Graveolens Oil ,Methylparaben ,Sodium Benzoate ,Propylparaben ,Sorbic Acid

The ingredients are a disgrace. Sodium Laureth Sulfate is one of the biggest skin irritants there are. Its the same stuff used in car washes to create the foam.

If you have a little bit to spend OP, I would recommend "Deep Steep" products, the best ingredients I've found anywhere. They're a USA company.

They are available on Feelunique.com for around £10 each.

But you can get them much cheaper from the USA website Iherb, which ships to the UK. Here are the products
    http://www.iherb.com/search?kw=deep+steep+&x=0&y=0#cid=2070&p=1

Use code KSM206 for 10 dollars off first order. Make sure your order isn't over £15 or else you will have to pay import duty, VAT and Royal Mail £8 handling fee. Under £15, you won't have to pay anything extra. I order from Iherb regularly and the average shipping time is 10 days.

An example of one of the Deep Steep shower gels is:
Organic aloe barbadensis (aloe vera) leaf juice, infusion of organic herbs; mentha viridis (spearmint) leaf extract, citrus medica limonum (lemon) fruit extract, citrus aurantifolia (lime) fruit extract, cucumis melo (honeydew) fruit extract, coco glucoside, aroma (organic and wildcrafted essential oil blend), glycerin (vegan), caprylic acid (coconut fatty acid), organic butyrospermum parkii (shea) butter, tocopherol (vitamin E) natural, panthenol (vitamin B5), organic theobroma cacao (cocoa) seed butter, potassium sorbate, citric acid.

They are extremely gentle and smell good. Superb brand. Shipping is around £2.50 to UK. The products themself are almost double the price of SAnex but worth it.

I use E45 wash too find it very softening on my skin, though foam makes me feel fresher but can be irritating.

What do you use to wash/cleanse your face may I ask?

You are right about SLS, however it doesn't effect everybody, for example the product you list is more likely to trigger my allergy than Sanex. Organic/natural products are not always the best for people with sensitive skin or allergies, for example some people are allergic to lemonene which is comes from citrus peel and used in organic products, and probably contained in the product you mention.

You don't need to spend that much on natural products, and there are quite a few UK sites that sell equally good products without exchange/customs charges, and with fast delivery.
    e.g. http://www.biggreensmile.com/departments/bath-and-shower-gel.aspx?deptid=SHOWGEL

At the end of the day not everybody can afford to spend £10 for a bath gel, particularly if there are more than one person with sensitive skin in the family.

    Hi terra-firma

On my face I can also use the E45 wash, simple soap & one called Organic Surge daily facial wash which I got from either Big Green Smile or Ethical Superstore (can't remember which). I have a tendency to react to some sort of natural oils but unsure which ones, so I tend to try stick to fragrance free ones. The Organic Surge one contains oils & I am ok with that one though. When I'm feeling flush I can also use the l'occitane milk soap.
I have also tried the Green People fragrance free shower gel which I liked & can be used as a face wash but I haven't got round to replacing it.

I tend to use either Body shop Vit E intensive cream or Boots derma care cream for very dry skin on my face. I use either Epaderm, Cetraben or Neutrogena intensive fragrance free lotion on my body. My hands are a nightmare & have today purchased the Body Shop hemp oil to see if that will help. I do also like the Flexitol hand balm from boots.
I feel like an itchy old prune !!!

I have sensitive skin and use the Jason shower gel from Big Green Smile. It's not cheap - around £9 a bottle - but the bottles are enormous (887ml) and last for ages, it takes OH and I about three months to get through one. I particularly like the apricot scent, the herbal one and the cranberry one, but they're all nice.

    Hi Callie

I looked at the fragrance free Jason wash as another alternative but haven't tried it yet. How do you find their washes ?
