I've just tasted it and it's not as thick as we used to have it (didn't have a small enough tray) but it is very much like it.
I, too, used to love the jam and coconut cake with pink custard! I try to attempt my own spin off on occasions although it never tastes like the real mccoy0 -
It was called chocolate crunch down here, delicious
and a double treat when they served it with chocolate custard too!

I remember having a chocolate cake dessert with chocolate custard but never heard of mint flavour. The other pudding served regularly was some jam sponge with coconut that got served with bright yellow custard. I remember liver and onions served with grey cabbage and mash, meat pie with a shiny leathery pastry on top and a also cheese version. One dinner time the school decided to serve up curry and rice, I don't know what the cooks had put in it but none of the kids ate it. By the time I started secondary school in 1979 I took my own lunch and never ate school dinners again.0

I don't remember much of the 'main' part of the school dinners other than the distinct flavour of the mashed potato which was always served with one of those scoops with the handle which made it flick onto the plate in a perfect dome shape!! Although I do recall having turkey dinosaurs and turkey drumsticks. I was a bit of a fussy eater so wouldn't have dreamed of eating any of the 'wet' stuff they served (with the exception of puddings).0

You must be a heck of a lot younger than me Fredula! I used to feed my kids turkey dinosaurs, drumsticks and twizzlers! Boak.0

Pink custard and chocolate custard were actually blancmange.
