Cleaning leather sofa

What do you use to clean a leather sofa? I am using leather wipes at the moment but was just wondering if an all purpose cleaner would do the job and work out cheaper?

I tend to use a bit of multi purpose but we have an old settee so I'm not too worried. You should try an area you can't see. Alternatively baby wipes are very mild.0

We found a leather cleaner spray in Poundworld and it seems to do the job just fine - with a lovely coconut-y scent too!0

You do need to be careful to use a cleaner that will not damage the finish. Baby wipes are the worst thing to use as they can strip the finsh over time. APC may be fine but you woud need to know what strength to use it at.
Generally speaking leather wipes are fine for the odd quick clean but you woud need about 50 to do a really good clean on your leather.
Leather needs a good deep clean once or twice a year depending on usage and colour - it can then be maintained in between. This will eep it in old condition and prolong its life
Hope ths helps

I always use a washing up bowl full of hot water and add a squirt of washing up liquid and a tablespoon of olive oil and a small splash of fabric softner. This works beautifully for my sofa, brings it up lovely and clean, but conditions the leather too. Someone may now come along and tell me it's really harmful
but I've done this for years!

It is important to do something to make your leather last. We are very familiar with Halo leather and have samples that we work with. There are now very good cleaners and protectors for Aniline leather that will surface clean and keep your leather protected from stains and spillages. These will also keep your leather in good condition.
Avoid using oils and waxes as these can cause problems with ths type of leather and they are unnecessary
Charlieex - this depends greatly on the type of leather. Generally speaking washing up liquids are bad as they contain too many salts (designed to get dishes clean) and these can damage the finish which can also make it look very clean!!
Hope this helps

All I have ever fine with my chesterfield is dust it. Bought it in 1992 and still love it, although the edge of one cushion is wearing.Member #14 of SKI-ers club
