So Frustrated with Halifax re my DMP!

I'm going around in circles!

I got a letter off StepChange saying that Halifax would not talk to them about my credit card account as they have told SC that the name or address they hold is different for me.

So, I thought this weird, as I get paper statements at my address for this credit card with all details correct.

I phoned Halifax to sort it out, but they confirmed all details were the same. They dug further and there was a credit card account from 2010, which the agent told me that he thought might have a small balkance on it, which is why it was possibly still showing. Said he could do nothing, and I had to go into branch with my passport.

I did this and was a bit peeved as it's a bit of a trek and costs me to park there. The woman on the helpdesk checked and all was the same again, so she phoned someone at Halifax, who checked again. They could see the old cc, at an old address, which was closed and settled, so they could do nothing. I said I just want to pay some money - she said it's all fine, tell StepChange what has happened.

This was all last Friday and Saturday. Phoned StepChange on Tuesday to tell them the whole story and they said fine, they'd get back to them.

Got a letter this morning, dated 9th April, saying exactly the same thing - Halifax won't talk to them until my details are corrected!!

I JUST WANT TO PAY SOME MONEY!!!!! Going round in circles here and have no idea how to sort it out.

Some people may not have the confidence to run their DMP themselves though? Stepchange are a little regimented though in their approach I agree. I will probably stay with them till my first review and then go it alone, but it is easier just sending one payment and letting them get on with it.

OP, it may be in your interest if they do keep returning the payment. Stepchange will keep trying to pay it so you won't lose it, but after a couple of months Halifax are more inclined to hand it over to a DCA who will likely deal with Stepchange. I've heard Halifax are one of the worst to deal with on a DMP so getting it away from them might be best.
  • On the phone to them now and dealing with a guy in credit cards who is in turn dealing with the Complaints Department to try and get this sorted. They are saying something about an organsiation number.

I haven't got the money to pay them separately this month - I've paid my DD to StepChange and I need them to pay from that as I can't afford to make another payment and I also don't know how much it is, as I won't have a statement available to me until next month as there's no information there online yet - I also would rather StepChange dealt with it all, as I have more confidence in doing it all that way. Like a bit of hand-holding really!
  • So, update - it seems that it is because the Collections Team can't see anything yet as the account is not in default until Monday. They say to let StepChange know to try to make a payment again on Tuesday and all should be well.

They've paid me £80 off my credit card balance by way of apology...:)
