Charging order & House Sale

Hi, I think that this may have been asked before and I have found some info on here with regards to the title of this thread. However my situation is slightly different and was hoping for some advice.
My ex partner and myself have a property which neither of us have lived in recently, it has been rented out etc. My ex decided to put the house up of sale and it is now sold subject to contract.
We split in 2004 and since then I have not been able to get into the house and I have now discovered that any mail has been binned. I am pleased that the property is going to be finally sorted out as this is something that I have been pushing for years. Everything is fine apart from two orders that have been put onto the house. One in my ex name and one in mine. I had no idea that this had happened, who or how much it is. The strange thing is that the one in my name was placed in January 2014 nearly 10 years after I moved.
Can this be legit and is there anything that I can do as I was living elsewhere and unable to get any mail. I changed all my credit cards/ loans to my new address when I moved and paid then off so I cannot think what this is.

Any advice would be welcome, thanks

    Hi

It could be 'legit', but you'd need to track back and find out who has placed the restriction and for what debt. They will have needed a CCJ before the charging order/restriction was granted so you'd then want to try to find out details of the CCJ.

You could try checking the registery trust online for your name at that address to see if any CCJs have been granted in the last 6years (it costs £8 to search a name/address combination but anyone can do this search) or check your credit reports if that address shows on them.
If a CCJ was granted more than 6years ago then it would no longer appear on the registry trust website or your credit files.
