I'm not looking .... but my most recent work/experience has been in web-industries .... so if I tried to change industry I'd simply have no experience/understanding of the work/jobs/company whatsoever. When I do look, I will expect the usual nonsense to occur.noelphobic wrote: »What sort of work are you looking for? I'm probably stating the obvious but if you are having no luck with this type of organisation then maybe you should consider looking at other types of work/companies?
I've 30 years' IT experience, project management and SEO/Internet stuff.... a "young industry" quite often.
Could apply for other jobs, but then they see I've not done XYZ for 30 years before it even gets to specifics.
As a sole income household it's more important for one to bring in a living wage, than for somebody in different circumstances, so you have to keep trying to earn 3/4 of the "average wage" rather than settling for 1/2.0 -
There is no doubt that age discrimination exists, but it can work both ways. I am currently helping recruit for an administrator, and the business owner will not consider anyone below 50. The reason, he wants someone he can relate to (he is over 70!), from experience be finds older people to be more independent, calmer, less likely to get involved with office gossip. Even as someone well below that age group, I tend to agree with him
