Lowell Financial - Result!

Hello All,
Quick update on a post I made a few weeks ago regarding Lowell Financial.
They had initially written to me out of the blue claiming I owed them over £180 as they had taken over the debt from 3 Mobile. It was from 2009 and I'd never had any contact from 3 regarding this.
When I got the first letter I called them and had a discussion with them about why they thought I owed them money at all as I had cancelled all contracts with 3 back in 2007. They told me the onus was on me to prove my innocence and threatened me with court, bad credit history etc etc. I asked them to send me written proof which they said they would.
They tried calling a few times and I just refused to answer any questions over the phone, saying anything they had to say should be put in writing and sent to the address on file. They asked me to confirm security questions to make sure my details were correct and again I refused and hung up.
Yesterday I got a letter from them stating that they had been unable to get a statement from Three Mobile and as such, were closing my account and wiping the balance owing.
I wasn't jumping for joy as I knew i didn't owe them anything anyway but I am pleased that it is, hopefully, over.
I'm also pleased that one of the first things I did was post on this site, I received some great advice so thanks to everyone for that.
Also, to anyone else out there who gets these letters and doesn't know what to do. DON'T PANIC!!!
You have time to sort it out, companies like Lowell are banking on the fact that people will panic and pay up as they think they will be homeless by the end of the week if they don't.
Stand up to them and demand proof, seek advice on sites like this.
I'm lucky that this hasn't dragged on for weeks/months and I'm not 100% certain they won't come calling again but thanks to this site, if they do, I'm ready for them!

Good news
Have you checked your credit file at any point? if not it may be worth doing so just to check this debt doesn't appear incorrectly.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
