Urgent - Please help

We have a mortgage with Halifax and had a two month payment holiday Feb & March. We set up the monthly payments again and Halifax told us we had to pay manually for April as it was due that day and then from May payments would be DD.

It appears that they have taken two payments leaving us £600 worse off. We have no money for this month now and I can't go food shopping today so have nothing for the weekend at all.

The problem is my husband left for work this morning really upset and stressed about this situation and is in back to back meetings all day so is stressing about trying to get hold of them as it takes ages to speak to someone on the phone and going into branch also takes forever.

I can't call them as the mortgage is in his name only so I don't think they will talk to me. What can we do?

Not much other option than to contact Halifax. This will not provide an instant solution, as it will take time to return any overpaid funds.

You could use the direct debit indemnity scheme to call back the payments but this may leave you with a late payment marker on your credit file.

Thanks King street. It's showing as two separate transactions so could we recall only one of them then hopefully it wouldn't affect credit score?

    No idea.

You'll have to ask the bank concerned.
