Laptop as business expense

Options
Hi all,

I have a question specifically regarding the purchase of a Macbook Pro and claiming this as a capital allowance expense for self-employment.

I do some self employed work and want to claim for the upcoming purchase of a Macbook Pro which I will be using to do this work.

However I want to buy the Macbook Pro by giving the money to a family member who has an educational discount with Apple, saving around £180 in the process. This means I wouldn't personally be paying for the item. Is this a problem vis-a-vis claiming it as a capital allowance?

Any advice much appreciated!

No need to start a new thread.

    1) Keep evidence of the payment to your relative to confirm the outgoing.
    2) Retain the receipt.

and there should be no problem.

Is the laptop going to be used solely for business purposes? Or will a portion of it be used for personal use?
