I'll start by saying HI! Im new to the forum, although I am a regular reader!
Today I received a letter from Lowells (see attatched) after reading that these are scammers I thought I had best come on here for some advice!
As you can see they want me to acknowledge that I live here, and that they found me through a CRA, I have used Equifax, Experian and Noddle in the last month to check my credit file. They dont mention how much the debt is which I find a little bit starnge. From the letter they purchased the account in 2006 from Redcats Finanace, I think this is La Redoute? What had happened back then was a certain family member opened a account with La Redoute without telling me and I didnt find out until a year later when I found letters demanding money and they mentioned a CCJ and this letter was a year old when I found it!
Anyway, when I checked Equifax it said I have 2 accounts defaulted in 2008 with Virgin Media and O2 Mobile, one of which was 6 years old on March 14th this year the other is 6 in August this year. There was nothing else on this report, no CCJ's to report no other accounts unpaid etc just my bank account and finance I have with SCS.
Experian showed me absolutely nothing, it said I had no defaults, no CCJ's and no past credit history just what I have took out in the last year. Experian basically just told me I have a poor credit history because Ive not taken any credit or my current credit hasnt been going long enough to give me an advantage.
Noddle shows the same as Experian.
So after 8 years of absolutely no contact from them until today can they still chase a debt? I was under the impression if it was 6 years or older its cleared from your credit file?
Thanks Jono

Hi,
Unfortunately as a new user, you cant post links or pictures until you've posted x amount of times, I think we get the drift though, so am I right in thinking there is no CCJ ? if that's the case, and the debt has not been acknowledged for a period of 6 years then it would be statute barred yes, which means they cant obtain a CCJ against you, if one has already been issued though, that changes things a bit !!I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Like I said before, if no acknowledgement of the debt is made within a 6 year period, that effectively means that the creditor cant take you to court to obtain a CCJ, as the debt has become statute barred, info here :
