Halifax mortgage with a satisfied CCJ

Hi, I hope this is in the right place and I'll explain as best as I can.

2009 my husband found out he had a CCJ from his previous house mate not paying the council tax, he found out about this whilst trying to get a mortgage for the first time. The CCJ was satisfied and he went on to get a mortgage (43% deposit) through halifax.

We are now looking to purchase a house together. We both have excellent profiles on experian (no mention of the CCJ on his) and a good profile on equifax (the satisfied CCJ is on there). We are looking to put down 20%, agreement in principal said they would lend £55,000 more than we have asked for.

Things are now moving slowly as we are waiting for them to decide what to do on the basis of the CCJ. Do you think this is going to be a problem? There was no problem in getting the mortgage in 2009 - just months after the CCJ was settled but now it looks like it could cause problems?

Thank you for reading,

Hannah

I wasn't aware a council tax summons could lead to a CCJ.
  • From what I understand the council tax had been unpaid for nearly 12 months, there is a ccj showing on equifax?

You're probably right but I just didn't know that council tax summons could lead to a CCJ. Learn something new everyday.
  • It is not showing on experian but it is on equifax, the rating for experian is 999 and 456 on equifax which I think is ok because it is out of 500?

I am just petrified this is going to cause problems :( Has anyone any ideas?

Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
  • Halifax know about it because they have said they are thinking about what to do. Its horrible that they are doing this now but there was no issue when my husband had a mortgage on his own.
