in Cutting tax
Hi
I was let go from my job on the 31st of march 2014... I haven't received a p45 and may not either.
I possibly start a new job next week (which will be my only job)...if I do, will I need a p45?
im assuming that because I haven't worked this current tax year (since april 2014) that I don't need a p45 ? is this correct? though I may get a week or two's Job Seekers Allowance. will JSA give me something to do with NI paid for 2 weeks?
Will there be any issues such as going on emergency tax code in my situation? or is it straight forward no job this tax year, and I go on the tax code that is for this year (1000l?)
Thanks

last year's P45 is no use to you now
if you receive JSA then that is taxable so they should give you a P45 after you get a job from DWP
otherwise you need to ensure you fill in a P46 when you start your new job.0 -
You should get P60 from previous job. Keep it as proof of income, etc.
If you claim JSA, once you get P45 from DWP, hand it in to your new employer.
To avoid giving too much details:
it is only two weeks, even if you pay too much or too little tax during the time that you might claim JSA, and possibly be on emergency tax code as a result, the correct code operated later should sort this out by giving an in-year refund or taking, if possible, a little more tax temporarily.
The most important thing is to fill in a P46 with new employer and tick the right statement, as that is the factor determining your tax code! Just keep checking the tax code on your payslips0
