Passport renewal an allowable expense?

Hi all,
My passport is due for renewal in the next couple of months and it set me thinking - about 80% of my travel is purely international travel directly in relation to my job.
Anyone ever tried to claim passport renewal as an allowable expense from the HMRC?

I don't think a passport is an allowable expense for an individual in any situation and in your case it is not 'wholly and exclusively' for business purposes. You can try asking your employer to pay for it.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

I would ask, a company paid for my passport after they wanted to send me to Israel a week after touring Middle East offices.0

We've certainly claimed for visa's where the visit has been work related.
And we recently needed to get a FastTrack passport issued for my husband (silly him left it in his trouser pocket, and silly me put it through the wash...) because he needed it for business - we'll be putting that through the business as we wouldn't have had to FastTrack it if he hadn't been going away for work. Don't know yet if it'll be accepted.
I don't know whether a renewal would be allowed - probably not, as 'duality of purpose' would come in. For example, we wanted to know if we could claim for a dinner jacket for OH as we were going to a black-tie event related to the business. We were told that we couldn't, as he could wear the DJ to other, non-work-related, events as well. It seems to me that renewal of the passport would fall into the same category - you can use it for non-work-related trips. Just because you don't (and just because we're never invited to black-tie events) is neither here nor there. No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0 -

A company paying for a passport and HMRC allowing it as an expense are two very different things. !!!!!! is correct, this would fail the duality of purpose test.0
