Thursday 10th April - What small DFW things will you do today?

When we start out on the Debt-Free Wannabe trail we do loads of big "stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the Gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free...

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending

  • Good morning everyone, day off work today :j
Laundry is on the line (yesterdays that dear sons didn't hang out so I put it out last night!). Will do another load and put that out too.

Have checked bank account and spreadsheet (no surprises thank goodness).

Invited my friend for lunch. We are having a frugal week so I have 1 square inch of cheese in the fridge and 2 lemons. Am getting soup out of the freezer and making cheese scones and a lemon cake. Also using up curry from freezer for tonight.

More eBay prep needs to be done.

We are of to visit (and stay with) family tomorrow. I have given OH a list for packed lunch things to buy to take with us. Shouldn't need them, usually a 3 hour drive, but last time got stuck in a jam for hours and ended up buying service station burgers. Never making that mistake again! Will take a flask of coffee too.

Probably won't be posting this weekend, am at wedding, so wish you all a good one.

    Morning everyone

A bright new penny pinching day :-) I like it, that made me smile.

Hi tiggy i personal wouldn't count postage as you've got the money for postage from buyer.

Been doing really well this month with eBay sales and pinching the pennies, loan under £700 shouldn't be too much longer. Got another £15 from eBay sales last night :-)

    Today's list -
Transfer money from PayPal into 'pay off debt' savers account
Check online banking and dds (work out what's left, deleted my dd list by accident opps)
Write 5 eBay drafts ready to post tonight (sell better in the evenings)
Get on top off cleaning and washing
Tea from stock and prep for tomorrow night
Update 1% challenge and colour in squares
    Post eBay items
    One poll and I poll

    Afternoon Campers,
    Today's small money-saving things:
*Did the ironing & switched off for the last 3 little items.
*Ironed the summer clothes I got out from winter storage. Had a look through wardrobe. Think will need to buy very little for summer....maybe a new pair of decent leggings to go with my summery tunic tops, perhaps a dress if I saw something fab (at an equally fab price) but nothing really urgent.
*My day to have the car, so popped out for a few bits. All budgeted for, so no effect on bank account. Treated myself to coffee & a toasted teacake at local coffee shop. Used my April 'Personal spends' so again, no incursion into bank account.Bought a few stamps....I only buy 2nd class now as they have risen so much in price. Still a good price when you think that a letter can be dropped in a box here in the Midlands & be anywhere in the country in the next couple of days, so I don't really resent it & love both writing & getting letters myself.
*Making bread rolls to freeze for when family come to stay over Easter. Will make another batch tomorrow & that should be enough.
*Tended veggie seedlings. More snail damage overnight in greenhouse so there's obviously another one in there but I couldn't find it. Will go out there after dark with mr f & a torch.
*Use-it-up campaign. Still going strong! My beautiful new scented candle (a Christmas gift) remains unlit while I use up all the old dregs of stuff stashed in a drawer, so am currently still burning my way through a box of joss sticks & the house smells like my old student accomodation! Finished up very last of a foundation this morning, which I'd been scraping out with a coffee stirrer. Think I got about an additional 3 weeks out of it, which is pretty good considering I wear make-up every day.
*Use-it-up now extending to garden shed! Have been battering weeds in front paving with boiling water kettle dregs for last couple of weeks as don't like using chemicals but yesterday I found 2 ancient bottles of weedkiller at the back of the shed. Only a bit left in each but intend to use it up getting last of weeds sorted. I like the decluttering aspect of 'use-it-up' too. Am getting rid of so much stuff! :-)
*Made tomorrow's packed lunch & work snacks.
*Meals as per meal plans - salmon crumble tonight with a big salad to use up various bits in the fridge. Cheesy topping using crumbs from my stale breadcrumb box in the freezer.
*Remind mr f to check whether he's had a reply re registering for Facebook local group as we want to sell a DVD recorder.
*Did lots of surveys this morning....each time I went to log out, another one seemed to pop up! 2 Toluna vouchers pending & over half way to another one. Onepoll over 3/4 of the way to cash-in, same with Ugov & only another 120 points for Ipsos cash-in. Boring, but got to keep up with this, just a little bit a day.
*Knit a bit more of current project for present box.
*Did some useful planning with mr f re Easter guests, food budget, general job list & when to shop/bake. All now on calendar. Time & time again, it's being organised & planning in advance which saves us money.
    OK, time to crack on.
Hope everyone having a good day.
Ziggy - Good to hear you're still doing 'Use-it-up' too. It's satisfying isn't it? I've even been doing it with tights!! All mine are too big since losing so much weight & I was going to buy new ones in Jan, but I thought I'd keep wearing those I'd got as Spring was just around the corner & although I have to keep utching them up, they've all lasted just fine!
    Cheers all,
    f xx

    Hi all

Doing ok today - not spent any money (used RM survey stamps to post the easter egg) but think we'll need bread on my way home.

I'm in the use-it-up gang too - got a ridiculous amount of toiletries that I need to get through!

Did spend £40 on a Frozen dress for a friend's little girl but getting the money back for that so not counting it - was a massive favour as they're like gold dust so I queued for her this morning - hoping for karmic retribution, haha!

HM ratatouille tonight - yum :)

Have happy DFW days all xx
