Mutt isn't a well dog....

As the title says really.

Was ok yesterday day (was with OH all day, apparently running around like a 1 yr old!) but last night during his walk he refused treats (which was unlike him) and then fell asleep almost as soon as he got home.

Didn't want supper and to date hasn't had anything to eat since breakfast yesterday

Was retching during the night and this morning.

OH took him to the vets today and mutt has had some injection and got some tablets as well.....told to take him back tomorrow if not better.

Apparently he's been asleep practically all day.

Can anyone suggest food that I can tempt him with - he's actively turned his head from his favourites

  • Really sorry to hear, don't know mutt's faves but have you tried livercake or tripe? After my dog had a fit she lost her appetite and these coaxed her to eat.

perhaps a little chicken or chicken and rice? if he isn't well then you need to be careful what he eats. but, not eating for a day or two isn't going to harm him is it?
I hope mutt feels better soon!

Something smelly may tempt him, warmed cat food is good, or cooked fish.
But if he's really not interested then I wouldn't force him, is he drinking?

    Get well soon Mutt x

Oh I hope he gets better soon as well......at the moment he's asleep by our bed (where he normally sleeps) and I'm sat by the side of him like a mother hen.

He seems to be in a really deep sleep - which I can only hope is him dealing with whatever is causing this .......atm I'd give anything for him to be taunting me with my walking beanie in his mouth!

Warm roast chicken was the only thing that tempted Kiki when she was poorly a little while ago - but she absolutely loved it, so it was worth the effort!

Sounds silly but I wouldn't worry overly about no food, but I would worry about no drink. Anything your mutt particularly likes to drink?.. that's what I would be hunting for.....one of mine loved weak tea! When she was ill I even had to beg teabags as we were camping and I don't drink tea!

Sounds as if he ate something disgusting on his walk and has an upset tummy. The vets injection has probably made him drowsy. If he gets worse in the night e.g. Breathing difficulties etc would call the vet. Will probably be fine tomorrow - our spaniels used to eAt disgusting stuff and the smellier the better:-(

Anything they could scavenge that you tried to take off them would be swallowed and the consequences would become apparent later - dead fish, dustbin contents, flat hedgehog or rat, poo etc.........best one had to be the sausages in wrapping - I thought one of them was passing his intestines, but it was the film filling up with gas - DH had to go and retrieve!!!!
