Drive was cheap to start with. Ok if your building up a cheap PC or for backing up your doc's or to put in a USB external case free post what more do you want.

Surely you still have to spend a penny to get free delivery!

Not a good deal as the £ to GByte ratio is pants!

(Noted that this is also on HotUKdeals with an earlier time)
  • Not clear from the Amazon page - but if it was a Deskstar (aka Deathstar) I wouldn't touch it with a bargepole regardless of price. They have something of a reputation and I got hit by a sudden drive electronics failure myself 5 years ago (about). The drive was unrecognised by BIOS so the disk itself may have been OK - just no way to get at the data (and yes - it was 40Gb).

If you have good (recent) experience then by all means, maybe they got better - but once (hard) bitten.....

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
The Deathstars were IBM and then only specific batches (I still have a 40GB one running).

Spookily enough there was another thread a couple of days back looking for a 40gig or similar for an old PC (possibly with a 32GB BIOS/OS limit).

My point was if you were after a small drive at a cheap price it was ok.if you don't have alot of money to spend its better than 2nd hand. Also some people have old PC's that can't take larger drives.
