DMP review

I willl be speaking to payplan on friday for my annual review, i wondered if it would be worth asking them if my two barclaycard accounts should have been defaulted , they both charge interest at a lower rate, I understand that they are allowed to do this, if the accounts were defaulted would they still be able to charge interest, all of my other accounts are defaulted, one of them being a barclaycard account which used to be egg,. Many thanks

You could ask, but I suspect payplan won't be overly helpful in this matter.

If they entered defaults they can still charge interest. You could try writing to BC to ask them to enter defaults for these debts (although BC seem to be particularly difficult and argumentative about entering them at the moment).

    Hi Anna

I'm also on a DMP with Payplan and on the whole I am very happy with what they have done for me. However, I have never found them overly great at dealing with interest and charges issues - to be honest I do not think any creditor / DMP provider communications on these issues are very good. I beleive it better for you to deal with these things directly with your creditor.

Interestingly, Barclaycard and Moorcroft are the only two creditors who have not defaulted me. On account of this I am going to try and settle those two debts asap - since they will then be on my credit file with AP markers for a further 6 years :( Furthermore, both of those debts were ones sold on by Egg when the latter consolidated its holdings a few years ago.

I hope you manage to get sorted out anyway, I am keeping an eye on people's progress with Barclaycard in case it becomes worthwhile dropping them a line but since they are not charging me any interest at all at the moment I am reluctant to rock the boat.

    Regards

You should complain to them first and demand they default those accounts at the correct date. They are actually starting to do this themselves and a few people have had letters out of the blue saying they will backdate the default date. So I think it's something they are getting hassled about.

I would try to get the right default date before you pay them off to be honest.

Barclaycard only froze interest for me during the first 6 months of my dmp and then they charged for the remaining 5 years despite me constantly writing to them and I can't remember when they defaulted me if they ever did. They haven't shown on my credit file for over a year.
