Paying off overdraft - advice needed

  • I've also started taking out cash each week and don't touch the rest I transfer the money for bills etc to savings as soon as I'm paid weekly (I'm in the process of transferring everything to the new no overdraft card) that way I don't feel the need to get out my card and use it throughout the week. Definitely been helping so far to curb the extra spending!

    Hi,

I was in a similar situation back in December, I was overdrawn by £1020 each month & all my wages, payments, bills etc were going in/out and I couldn't see the woods for the trees. Nationwide recalled my overdraft & asked for the full amount back by 30th jan  I spoke to their customer liaison team & they agreed a payment plan of £45 per month.

I then opened a basic co-op account with no overdraft & manually moved every single bill & payment to this account which took a while! ;) but was well worth it as I now have complete control of my finances & have been making larger payments to Nationwide which means I have two payments of £100 left to go & it's gone.

For me this has been the best thing I have ever done & I wish I had done it years ago.
