Are there people that are actually impressed seeing others carrying a cardboard sippy cup of coffee around?

My tip would be, if you want/need coffee out, get it from McDonalds or Greggs. Much nicer than Starbucks and comparable to Costa, and half the price of either, just a shame they don't do a flat white. I've never had coffee from Nero so can't comment on theirs.

Do NOT get coffee at Greggs, because you will always come away with a sausage roll to go with it, or at least I do.:D
That gum you like is coming back in style.

Buying a nice coffee is one of those little pleasures that I treat myself to occasionally. Usually from Costa so I have a loyalty card. It does add up and I find the staff are lovely and very friendly even when busy.:)

Booths have been giving away a free cuppa each day. You need to get a booths card which you use if you purchased any shopping (gives offers/money back) but you don't need to purchase anything to get a drink, simply request a drink and show your card in the cafe. Lovely cappucino or latte for free!:T
  • As Starbucks don't pay their taxes - they still haven't - don't buy from them. We all pay tax, why should they get away with it?
  • Free tea and coffee at Ikea stores for all family card holders EVERY time you visit. Its free to sign up too.

Ikea free tea or coffee is only Monday to Friday. I always have fruit tea bags with me and often, if I buy a muffin or sandwich ask for a cup of hot water.........and to my daughter-in-laws disgust pop in my own tea bag.

  • My wife's prepaid Starbucks card gets her a free syrup shot every time, plus loyalty equivalent to 10% off. We also have a couple of their cheap reusable cups which gets us something like 25p off each time, which pays for itself in only a few drinks.

Also, a new Waitrose has just opened around the corner and with a loyalty card my wife gets a free coffee every time she visits plus, it seems, a free copy of The Times. The paper might be an opening offer, but the coffee is ongoing.
  • Used to work for a small coffee company years & years ago that got bought over by Starbucks. Don't know if it's still on the menu, but in the early days there was a 'Misto'. It's half a mug of brewed coffee topped up with steamed milk, ideal for those who found lattes/cappuccinos too milky & I think it was cheaper too. The brewed coffee also cheaper. Think they still do a discount if you use your travel mug.

There was 1 P.I.T.A customer who thought he was smart by ordering an iced latte with only 3 ice cubes. Obviously he'd get more liquid, We didn't mind making it but it'd p*** us off when he'd moan it wasn't cold enough...

PS might be wrong, but I think Starbucks only did tall, grande & venti sizes originally. When they entered UK market by buying the co I worked for we had short, tall, grande sizes, Starbucks decided to keep the short size as an extra option but menu boards only show tall, grande, venti. Here endeth the (possible) history lesson

PPS again, back in the day, we weren't allowed to give away food that had reached its best before/use by date in case anyone consuming it became ill & sued the company - another 'delightful' import from across the pond!
