The 2nd job situation

Hi guys
It's been a while since I last posted on here but advice is needed once again from you lovely people.
I have made some good steps this year to clearing my debts. I have already cleared my overdraft and changed banks so I am no longer tempted to spend into my overdraft (also my old bank were naff) I have an emergency £250 on my new account that I don't plan to use unless in dire circumstances.
Now to tackle the 2 cards. My current Barclaycard debt stands at £7400 and my Natwest at £2400. I want to clear both of these in the next 18 months as me and my boyfriend are wanting to save up for our own flat (part buy part rent) and I don't want to have any debts before I start applying for mortgages etc. Also I want to use the time I am living at home wisely. I am 27 and don't want to be living at home forever so I plan to be gone within the next 2 years TOPS!
Would I be wise to take on a 2nd job to clear these debts off quicker? If I did take on a 2nd job I would want a weekend job as I currently don't think I could handle an evening job as my hours are 9-5:30 but I am often here till gone 6pm. Can anyone advise of any websites that specialise in weekend work?

Having a second job would certainly help clear your debts quicker, but it isn't for everyone.
I'd say its worth trying but tell yourself you will try it for a month and then see how you feel about it (especially if you end up working 2 days of the weekend and never having a day off).
I take it there is no opportunity for overtime in your current place of work? What do you do for a living? is it likely to be something you could get a second job in the same field? or are you thinking to do something totally different in a second job?
As things stand with your finances now how long will it take to clear your cards? is it more than the 18months goal?
I don't know of any specific websites but typically weekend only jobs are often in the service sector so that may be a good place to start looking.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
I currently work in radio but on the admin side of things. I have no traning currently to do more on air stuff which is where the money is so I wouldn't have a chance of getting anything in the way of over time/part time here sadly as much as I would love it!
I was thinking an office based job close to home to do on Saturdays and Sundays maybe working in an estate agents or reception work somewhere? Even working in a supermarket on the weekends would be an option.
I've worked out it will take until March 2016 to pay off both cards and still give me money to live. If I took a 2nd job it would allow me to shave more off my cards while still saving and living.
I am very much of the mindset that it was me who got me into this mess and me who should get me out and me alone. I can still see my bf in the evenings if I do a weekend job.0 -
What about freelancing? I'm sure there are lots of admin style freelance jobs available... Have a look at PeoplePerHour.. a friend of mine uses that site and has found loads of work.0
