....what would it be? What are the best baking books you've seen/own? I don't yet have any books on baking and would like to get one comprehensive book to start off with, cakes and biscuits rather than bread. Does anyone have any recommendations of books with recipes they use time and again?
Thanks x

why not try the be-ro book, it's all cakes and biscuits. also, get in touch with your local WI - they often have low cost recipe books (self published) full of goodies!Happiness is not getting what you want - it's wanting what you have
(I can't remember the originator!)0 -
Well - I would cheat and have two, but both are cheap.Muffins - fast and furious by Susan Reimer (RRP £5.99, but about £4 at https://www.dvd.co.uk)And the be-ro book mentioned above - £1.50 at the co-op0

I do have lots of baking books but I also have one of those plastic pocket A4 display book things. If I see a recipe I like the look of online I print it out. If it is good it can stay and if it is no good it gets taken out and put in the recycling. That way I have a personalised cake book of good recipes.
The books I like most are
Delias Book of Cakes
Good Housekeeping - Great Cakes
Gorgeous Cakes - Annie Bell
All of which I picked up in The Works and other discount book shops for a few pounds0 -
The Good Housekeeping cookery book is a great all rounder and has great baking recipes. You can pick up the old ones 2nd hand for about 50p sometimes. Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.

My dad has recently moved house and gave me a box of items for the car boot. After having a mooch through, I happily came accross an old baking BE-RO book which belong to my Gran.
Since then, Ive not put it down. And have made at least 4 of the items. Its easy to read instructions/methods/ingredients are idots proof.
I was a chef in the army and despite me spending £100's on different books, (and believe me - I have few) I wont be letting this BE-RO book go out of my sight! Only wish I discovered it sooner!Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure0 -

I've got a Best of Mrs Beeton cookbook . There are no pictures (boo) but great cake and biscuit recipes!"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -

Have you seen this website? It's a food blog written by someone, who having gathered 101 cookbooks, decided to stop and actually work her way through them. Something I keep thinking is a great idea but never actually get around to... there's something addictive about buying new cookbooks and magazines!0
