Hello all,
Not really a curry question, but does anyone know where Doner Kebab shops get their salad (ie red and white cabbage, lettuce, tomatoes etc) from they put on doner kebabs? Do they get the salad from a supplier or do they make their own salad? I keep meaning to ask when I am in. But does anyone know?
Most appreciate any reply.

Yeah it's a weird one! At a guess I would say a kebab shop uses a veg wholesaler. The wholesaler would be buying from importers who buy from different countries based on seasonality/availability.
I know some restaurant owners who buy from the local supermarket. Not sure if that is what they do all the time or just if they run out.0 -
Is it because you like the way they make the salad? I like the way some kebab shops make the salad and theres a few near me who do a really lovely spicy sauce as well.0

doesnt answer the question - but an interesting study of the dangers of food poisoning from kebab salad ( as opposed to kebab meat )

My local kebab shop puts white vinegar on their shredded salad, it really makes a difference, love it. But something to put you off a bit, someone post this on facebook the other day, not sure where it is, but enough to put you off......

I would imagine they buy the veg & salad from somewhere like this , at the same time as they buy their meat

I was going to say that you probably don't want to know where it comes from.If you fold it in half, will an Audi A4 fit in a Citroen C5?

not entirely sure what sort of salad it is but I think tesco value leaves contain slices of red & white cabbage0

they prob make theirs, simply ask your local shop.
you could just make yours quickly at home with a food processor, we like coleslaw but not with mayo so i make a version with dressing and its lovely, plus it keeps well for a week.
1/2 cabbage - shredded
small red onion (white or spring fine) - sliced
2-3 carrots - grated
optional;
apple/unripe pear grated
celery - chopped
or whatever you like
for dressing;
2 tbsp olive oil
2 tbsp cider vinegar (or i use whatever other to hand)
1 tbsp whole grain mustard from jar
pepper
celery salt (herbamare good alternative)
dried chilli flakes
basically just mix dressing in small pan and heat until starts to bubble. then when all other ingredients chopped add and simply mix.
you can adapt to include other ingredients (i do) and its always nice, plus the dressing helps preserve it so u can keep it in a container for awhile without discolouring or losing its crunch0 -
