Can anyone tell me how bad the roadworks are..we are driving to Glasgow airport from the East on a Wednesday at around noon, three weeks from now, how long are the delays at the moment?

I'm asking early as we'd book in somewhere overnight rather than miss our flights.

Thanks in advance:D

Currently they are quicker driving from the east to the airport than going from the airport to the city but in three weeks time it might be the other side that has more roadworks. As long as your not trying to get through the city at rush hour I think you will be fine if you just give an extra half an hour and if your worried you could just come off at city centre and head out paisley road west and go through paisley to get to the airport. It may be worthwhile checking if you can get one of those £15 rooms at the Paisley travelodge cause if you could get it that cheap it would prob be worth it.

Thanks Emma- if it's not too horrendous then we'll just leave a good bit earlier, if it had have been stretching into hours then we would have stayed overnight.

  • Hi,

I'm on that stretch of M8 daily and at present it's not too bad - I'd allow an extra hour rather than a half hour though as it's one of those stretches where any breakdowns have to be 'rescued' from the single lane thats open. If that were to happen you'd be stuck up to an hour but no more.

  • I travel that road to work and travel offpeak.... to be honest Ive barely noticed a difference in the volume of traffic. Id imagine itll be horrendous at peak times but off peak its been ok

Well, we're off today, we are allowing nearly 3 hours to get to the check in desk from Dundee...should be loads of time.

    Better safe than sorry though.

Lets hope the security check queues aren't too bad- hopefully everyone will know by now not to take anything suspicious on board- like half empty bottles of water:rolleyes:

Im flying off today too. Maybe see you at the airport lol

I drove from Glasgow to Paisley on Monday and Tuesday this week and traffic was fine both times so you shouldnt have a problem.

i drive both ways at all times and frankly the average speed cameras seem to be doing their job, its almost faster than normal.

The average speed cameras weren't anything to worry about the day we were there- everyone was down to about 20mph, but it wasn't too bad at all- we got there about half and hour befire the gate was meant to open, only to find it had already started checking in, so not too long a wait anywhere, really.

Hope you had a lovely holiday Emms!

  • If youre heading for the Airport stay in the outside lane (M8 only) it ALWAYS moves a lot faster than the inside one (J23 - 25 & M8)
