    Update:
I rang my tax office and spoke to a really helpful chap (Alan) we discussed my likely pay and pension for the tax year 2014/5 and he had my details on screen in front of him.
Whilst I waited he applied enough of my tax allowance to my pension code so I wont overpay tax and the balance to my salary. He explained he would inform the payers within 10 days so that it will all take effect right from the start of this tax year.

    RESULT!

Assuming it does work as he promised then I am one really impressed tax payer!

He even advised me about getting the form for getting interest on savings paid gross and the form for getting overpaid tax on investments back in previous years. Both are available online.

    Thanks everyone.

I am delighted that HMRC agreed with what I posted in post 3. It is refreshing to hear that you have achieved the result required without delay.
