Fancy moisturiser

Hello OS Gurus,
Santa very kindly gave me a pot of designer face moisturiser, it smells gorgeous and it can't have been cheap so I'd really like to get the most out of it. It's way too heavy for my skin though, makes me feel a bit like one of those birds that need specialist cleaning after being caught in an oil spill.
Is there any way to lighten it up a bit without ruining it? Would watering it down help or would it just not mix?
Thanks

I don't think mixing with water would work, though I guess you could try a small amount. You could try mixing with another lighter unscented moisturiser, though of course the smell etc will also be diluted. Or maybe use at night only? A thicker cream at night might be OK. Or wait till the winter, when your skin might dry out a bit.
If all else fails, use it as a hand cream?0 -
I would use it as a night cream if it is too thick for everyday wear. Smooth on last thing at night and it will be nicely sunk in for the morning! I hate the feeling of night creams due to their thickness, but needs must
A nice daily moisturiser is the Cien one from Lidl for £1.99.0 -
Don't go adding water. You will compromise the efficacy of the preservative in it and turn it into a breeding ground for bacteria.0

Don't add water to it!
Use it as a night cream, and put a small amount on your hand, warm it up by rubbing it with a finger so it spreads more easily and thinly then apply to face.
If it still feels too thick, use as a neck cream?Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -
Thank you all for your tips!
I tried it before as a night cream, it brings me out in loads of little white spots, I'll try warming it more in my hands and spreading it really really thinly, or mixing small amounts of it with a thinner moisturiser just for a hint of the scent. Or maybe I should just donate it to a friend and stick with my tried and trusted one?!Oct 2013: -12,382.89

If it's really thick I'd rub into into feet, elbows and knees and get them all lovely and soft before the sun comes out!
Try putting it on your feet when you can cover in some socks, overnight or when pottering round the house.
I've had a reaction to some very expensive Clarins moisturiser but manage fine with Aldi!0 -
Don't forget that if it is quite rich, you will only need a small amount the size of a baked bean. You don't need to slather a thick layer on your face, but could do on your elbows and feet2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

Perhaps adding some light oil could lighten it up, such as sweet almond or apricot? However you'd need to do this in very small quantities, and probably keep in the fridge because as Gigervamp pointed out, it won't keep as well.
