Good Afternoon!!
I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction.
I had arrears from my council tax.
Had a letter from the above posted through my door. Called them up set up a payment plan. (The amount was far more then the actual council tax arrears). Split this up into three months. Paid the 2 months but forgot about the third.
Another letter appears through my door for the remaining amount, plus £130 costs!!!
I logged onto the councils website and paid the remaining amount off so now the balance to the council is £0.
Received a letter today saying that the money that I paid to the council is actually for the bailiff fees, and that I have an amount remaining. It states that 'Regulation 52 (4) of the Council Tax (Admin and Enforcement) regulations 1992 as amended states that any partial payment shall clear the bailiff fees first leaving Council Tax outstanding. The sum of XXX therefore remaining outstanding and enforceable by seizure and sale of your goods'.
And that this must be paid within 7 days.
Suppose my question is, is this correct? They have made only 2 visits, and neither time I was in. Yet there are costs added to the original council tax of (£30 levy fee, £36 levy fee and £24.50 Redemption of Goods Fee) on the original paperwork. On the letter posted through my door the second time, is £130 additional costs.
= total of £220.50
Please help!!
