    Hi exoteric

We went with Nationwide - the CC debt was the only one we (me) had, and compared to our income, it was not tooooo high. At the time of my OP it just seemed insurmountable!! The broker did our full application and since I am the main contact our broker deals with, I'm the one who has a copy of this.

Of course, I would show a copy to my husband if he asked - I actually feel a lot better about the debts and more in control, so if push came to shove, I would "come clean".

I'm the one who controls our joint finances, bills, etc (and I do this a lot better than I control my own!!) so it just falls to me natuarally to be the one dealing with the broker. I work in finance too.....so should have known better!! :o
  • This has been a very helpful post. I'm in a somewhat similar situation and your post has given me the contact our mortgage advisor to explain the situation and ask for his discretion. It's very easy for people to say just to tell your partner, but sometimes due to personal circumstances it's not that straightforward. So thanks for the encouragement your post has given me.

Yeah basically you will have to make yourself the main contact and not show your partner the full application!

Luckily it doesnt show your debt etc on the Mortgage offer as then he would probably see it then.

Just let your broker know to be discreet with your partner

pay off the cards, pay less deposit, its cheaper to borrow on a mortgage than a cc... even a balance tfr is 2-4% nowadays...
even with that income your borrowing 300k. circa... the 12k will reduce affordability, but I personally think you will be fine either way... but your situation shouldnt be hidden. Honesty is best policy!
